What do you think about New Orleans removing the confederacy monuments?

SW-User
I think it's warranted. I understand the stance that those figures are integral to our history and the identity of the South. But much is emblematic of our development as a country. We don't erect statues to bootleggers and bank robbers. In Germany, I imagine you'd be pressed to track down any great monuments to members of the SS.

History should be examined and valued, but not in every case celebrated. The monuments' removal marks an evolution in the human condition.

If some they've removed an important part of history

@crabbyhermit: but is it history that should be memorialized and revered? If something awful happened to me in my childhood I don't hang pictures around my house to remember that event. You know?

History of a nation should be remembered so as not to repeat. A personal experience is not the same as a countries history.

I think is wrong and a part of history .

@Nomar67: but because it's history should it deserve a monument? Why are there no monuments of the slaves from that time? They are just as much a part of the history of that time. The monument does indicate which side is being memorialized. What do you think?

it seems like more would be gained from having monumented dedicated to Katrina and other events that have happened in New Orleans in the last 100 years.

Waste of funds

No, but that is impossible to know

so was the 911 monument a waste of funds? or the African American History museum in Washington? We don't know what kind of roi those will bring?

If you have nothing and make something of it then you are exceeding
