Do u strongly believe that the US is past its prime ?

I think that even in a post recession 911 world the US still remains strong. We started the industrial revolution. And if we didnt we sure as hell to it to the next level with our innovative technology. We had the nifty 20s. The roaring 50s. And then came the 1990s. The age of the dotcom boom. Given where we are right now do you believe that America is past her prime
Yes or no. ☺

We started the industrial revolution.

LOL. No you didn't, it was Britain. The original workshop of the world was the 19th century sweatshops of northern England. It was both a cause and result of the British Empire.

@Zonuss: At least from a country what's in the top ten of most happy countries in the world, something you can't say 😁

@kingkyrie: Apparently you dont feel that way. Why not just be a man and come out and say it. What country are you from

@Zonuss: The Netherlands, but why should I brag about it, we don't need that non sense to brag about how great we are, God's own country, land of the brave and home of the free and more of that hollow words.

I think there are two points about American decline.

1) Relative decline as an international power.

The US is being challenged as the world's dominant superpower. The rise of China and re-emergence of Russia mean that the US is *only* the first among equals. This is unavoidable as is simply about demographics and economics. China has a huge population and as it closes the gap in per-capita development then it will become the world's biggest power. Other countries like Brazil and India are also emerging as global forces.

2) Living conditions.

Real wages have stagnated and declined in the US (as in Europe) since the 1970s. This is a result of globalisation and also neo-liberal economics. Competition was always going to have an effect and free-trade has meant it is harder to have higher wages in a first world country. This is partly choice though, with Reagonomics and NAFTA trade deals playing a role in exaggerating the impact.

Sorry. But people arent living in the same conditions they were during the 1970s. Its better now than it was then. Especially for people of color.

Looks like America is in decline, but it is not clear if any other country will dominate the world the way the US have, or (hopefully) we are going towards a multipolar world.

DONALD TRUMP IS IN DECLINE...NOT AMERICA
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Fernie: Well put dear. ☺

@Zonuss: 🙂

The US is in terminal decline , and it's largely down to conservative thinking and an unwillingness to face the world as it is today. And that decline will be hastened even further as long as you refuse to accept climate science and fail to invest in renewable energy. You're getting left behind and you only have yourselves to blame.
Fernie · F
All those protesters against trumpydump are NOT conservatives. There are way more sane people in my country than trump supporters. We WILL take this fascist regime down ...we have serious issues as most countries do but we are progressing....at a snails pace but we are moving along...watch and see
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Fernie: America us fine. We have seen much worse than what we are getting now.
Fernie · F
@Zonuss: Absolutely right !!!
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
No. The USA and the world have the choice of boldly facing the future, or cowering to those who would condemn it into the past.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Interesting.

Veronica, WELL SAID!!

I feel we are still a very strong nation. News would have us believing otherwise if we paid attention to it.A lot of people are listing to this propaganda and they think USA is crumbling. This coutry has been through much worse and pulled out of it like champions. I believe our choice of leaders at this time are wrong for this country. Only time will tell.

This nation is still on its feet and ready to do whatever is needed to restore what ever damage has been done.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
The Civil War was the worst. And we rose out of that.☺
Fernie · F
America is still a young country maybe in it’s reckless teenage years but no where near its prime let alone past it. Look back not too long ago and you see how flawed so many things were that are no so much better. The states still have a lot of problems due to the majority of elected officials being Authoritarians but with a simple change to the voting system we could dramatically improve that. This election has been a spurt of growth for Americans...great big eye opener. If he doesn't get us killed, we will rise from these ashes a much better country

I think that a lot of the positive things that made this country unique have been steadily degrading for more than 50 years now, with way too much power increasingly concentrated in the hands of the executive branch. I think that personal freedoms, as well as and checks and balances on governmental and presidential power, have all become increasingly rare. And I wonder, with such an overtly narcissistic guy like Trump, if all that power will finally be used to do something truly terrible. If not him, then it'll happen eventually.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
What do you think is our biggest problem right now.
BlueDiver · 41-45, M
Blindness. We're so focused on red vs. blue that we fail to see any of the larger issues.
Goralski · 56-60, M
By that logic who is number one
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Is China really number one. Think about it now. ☺
Goralski · 56-60, M
@Zonuss: I don't know how financially savvy you are but their economy is going into d toilet. ...their GDP can't keep up with their elderly population for one and Thats just for starters
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Goralski: I see.
Steve42 · 56-60, M
Tough question.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Why do you say that.
Steve42 · 56-60, M
@Zonuss: I say that because the things that I grew up on, those things that provided stability, continuity, security have been thrown up in the air and in the past couple of months. I don't feel I can depend on those now like could the first 50 years of my life. It will get more difficult. Trump has put things in motion that promise instability.
Fernie · F
@Steve42: and WE THE PEOPLE have ALL the power to stop this fascist regime and we will...we are still Americans!
🙃 I do feel that the united states has jumped the shark.
But, it still has a lot it can lean on to get back to where it was. For now. It's just going to take some time. And some brains.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
We have brains. Its just corrupt.
No. I truly believe we are experiencing an awakening. Not just in our beloved country, but worldwide. In the past, we have been drawn to sleep by the deceptive sway of the "status quo" - now we are waking to a covert narcissist who is threatening our democracy. It's time to make a stand.

America is still a fairly new country. We are entitled to experience growing pains. With growth, there will be gains, but only if we are willing to acknowledge our past failings with the eyes of an adult - not a child.
