Trump is trying to create even more moral equivalency between Russia and the United States. Does the US do shitty stuff? Sure. Is our media a state-run sham designed to prop up a would-be autocrat who strips the rights of minorities to shore up a pseudo-imperialist government that blurs the line between church and state and assassinates its opposition figures when convenient? No, not really, no. The United States has some sickening features to its government, including the fusion of government and corporate power, but this is not unique to the United States and is often even worse in Russia.

That's not to say the difference between Russia and America is the difference between night and day, and I have often said that Russia is far more like America than either country would care to admit, but in the end there is genuine rule of law in the United States, and in Russia the Duma is pretty much just a rubber stamp for whatever program Vladimir Putin wants to enact.
