In a country where open displays of faith as minor as wearing a headscarf, and getting a paternity test to make sure your child is yours without a court order are both ILLEGAL, what do you think?

That said, their government doesn't have presidential term limits, and a president's term is seven years, so why would that be a problem? Sometimes people you don't like get elected, or even RE-elected; such is the price of democracy.
@Rabscuttle In France a president can hold office for a maximum of two consecutive 5-year terms. They can stand again having stood aside for at least one term.

@Adeptlinguist Yes, max 2 consecutive Presidential terms plus one non-consecutive terms. Macron would not be eligible to run in April 2027. Else Brigitte may smack him.

@Adeptlinguist No, they- oh, they changed it. Two and a half decades ago; I guess that shows how close attention I'm paying. But nine is, in addition to being less than fourteen, also less than ten.

He is four years into his second elected five year term as laid out in the French constitution. What is wrong with that?

Yes, not every constitution specifies term limits. In some countries someone can be elected more than twice in a perfectly democratic way.

he's a terrible antisemite these days
@GoFish He's not so much an antisemite than in the thralls of Qatar. With the USA turning on its allies, European countries have to make new alliances.

Yes, obviously.

In case you weren’t aware, the presidential term in France used to be seven years. It was reduced to five in 2000 after a 73.2% vote in a constitutional referendum.

Where is the problem?

I've never heard of Macron, but I have heard of Marcos.

As in Ferdinand Marcos, former president of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986, succeeded by Corazon "Cory" Aquino from 1986 to 1992.

Meanwhile in U.K.... You get the same one, with different faces.
Not sure what that is supposed to imply.

@Musicman You said he's not running lol
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Elessar But, you said he was. You even bought his merchandise. 🙂
Elessar · 31-35, M
@Musicman I said he was in response to your claim.

We don't buy merch for politicians in this part or the world, the concept is beyond cringe
