“Why the world is freaking out about diesel prices” – is the better question whether diesel fuel inflation is bullish or bearish for Amazon?

Photo above – Diesel truck racing is a real thing in Europe. They do this instead of NASCAR. So stop telling me how Europeans are more evolved than Americans.

I’ve given up trying to sort out whether AI wall street valuations are going to trigger an epic meltdown, or are simply an illusion. I read an article today that AI share prices (in the aggregate) are going to be 15X higher than today – “sometime”. That’s not investment news I can use. So, today’s column is about diesel fuel instead. See link below.

Nobody in America drives a diesel car. VW’s emissions scandal took care of that. VW was the last credible diesel automaker. Then they almost went broke with their “screw around and find out what happens” emission test cheating.

There was a hard pivot to VW’s mediocre ID3, and then the wildly overpriced ID Buzz. The Buzz izz now on production hiatus because the several dozen Americans who were willing to pay $70,000+ now have one in their driveway. VW is likely to get it’s EV minivan lunch handed to it. First by Hyundai/Kia. Then the alphabet soup of bargain Chinese automakers: BYD, CAG, LI, Nio, SAIC, WunHungLo . . .

So why are papers like The Telegraph “freaking out” about diesel prices – currently double 87 octane gas in the USA? Because diesel could be blamed for delivery inflation at Amazon. And higher construction costs, keeping affordable housing just a campaign slogan. Diesel drives Inflation of production and delivery costs for everything from Angus beef to zucchini.

Let’s focus on Amazon, since I can’t find a pure stock market play on Angus beef or zucchini casserole.

My take – it’s probably safe to own Amazon, even if they keep jacking up the annual Prime membership fee. Diesel and gasoline delivery fuel expenses are blended into the constantly fluctuating product prices. Millions of people are scoring further discounts by using "prime delivery day" once a week, or using an Amazon pickup location.

So are AMZN shares a good deal today? Nobody knows. It’s $260 a share, only up 12% over the past 12 months, pays no dividend, and has a P/E ratio of 20, which is way lower than the aggregate S&P index.

How do Amazon’s cloud computing, data center construction pipeline, and AI hog pens compare to the rest of the universe? Again, nobody knows, because most these companies are conniving liars which cannot be trusted to tell us how many data centers are finished, which are online, and which are facing community revolts by mobs of peasants with pitchforks. If congress and the SEC were serious about investment regulation, they’d turn their searchlights toward AI and away from Bitcoin.

I no longer believe Bitcoin is what tanks the stock market. It’s likely to be financial skullduggery around AI investment and revenue. This is stuff which doesn't get broken out in earnings guidance calls.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

I still see some of those old diesel Mercedes sedans on the road but yea you’re right .

@AthrillatheHunt i guy i worked with had one (don't see him any more). his observation - fuel is unreasonably expensive; mileage and acceleration are pitiful compared to modern cars; repair costs are in the mercedes stratosphere.
@AthrillatheHunt An awful lot of farm equipment uses diesel as they grow food. And of course all the 18 wheelers that bring food to market use diesel. But yeah, I guess other than our food suppliers, nobody important uses diesel. Well, construction equipment, ships, freight trains, but other than them, nobody important uses diesel.

truck racing started in the US in 1979

SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@wildbill83 good to know. are the drivers heros, like nascar?
SunSetStrut · 46-50
It is physically painful to imagine how slow a diesel truck race would be.
FrozenWasteland · 61-69, M
@SunSetStrut not *that* slow. Ok, limited to 160 kph for safety reasons (5000 kg at 160 kph is a pile of energy in a crash) but well over 1000 hp and 4000 ft-lb of torque keep it interesting.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@SunSetStrut i saw one on tv. its not about acceleration. the strategy is evidently to pass other racers on the turns, and force/jostle them off the course. they're going so slow, and the trucks are so robust, that there is wreckage as there would be with legitimate care races.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@SunSetStrut 120+/- mph on nascar tracks...

In england its €1.71 a liter or about 8$ a gallon. So yea hopeful it never gets that bad.

Not BS! But the entire crsis began in 1937 when THC derived deisel fuel was criminalized. THC extracted by ethanol creates light petroleum oil. At the time the filter used was newspaper, which greatly angered the newspaper industry, the response was demonization of narihuana as a whole.
Anyway, evaporate the ethanol heavy petroleum is the result. it can be refined into deisel fuel. Instead ever increasing fuel prices and prohibition. Welcome to American under crony capitalism and senile government personelle.

@exchrist ??? What are you smoking?
