Economic update: Trump’s bid for my vote in November is $5,000. Democrats, do I hear $5,500 . .. ?

Photo above - Hello? Weikert Ford? Do you have this color Bronco with the surf fishing package available? Yes? I have $5,000 to put down . . .

What a great time to be an American! My vote is worth $5,000. I never realized this was legal. Or I at least expected vote buying to turn up first in a presidential election year, not the mid-terms. Trump will pay me $5,000. Democrats – the bid’s to you . . .

I should be more troubled by the immorality of this than I actually am. But to be honest, who WOULDN’T want an extra $5,000 bucks right now? I could use it as a down payment for a new car. I lost out on the $7,500 tax refund to buy one of Elon Musk’s Tesla EVs. As an apartment dweller, I had no place to plug it in. It’s also why I failed to score thousands for rooftop solar panels. My best shot at saving the planet from climate change appears to be LED bulbs. Remember when the government promised us that if we bought enough LEDs, then America would never need to build another new electric plant in our lifetimes? (This was possibly an AI hallucination, or a lie.)

How much will $5,000 for each adult citizen cost the US Treasury? There are 205 million of us, but of course only 60% of citizens actually vote. No matter . . . if Trump “wins” we will each get $5,000, even if we stayed home on election day to play the soon to be released Grand Theft Auto VI (available for both PS5 and Xbox).

I imagine quite a bit of the $5,000 windfall will be spent on Fanduel, DraftKings, and Kalshi. What are the odds that 205 million people times $5,000 ($1 trillion, more or less) triggers a fed interest rate increase, which strangles the homeownership dreams of millions? What are the odds we’re still at war with Iran on election day? That gas prices will be $2 bucks a gallon higher? Visit Kalshi and make your wager, I guess.

I always seem to be on the wrong side of these economic debates. I don’t believe the government should bribe me – for votes, cars, windmills, or whatever – with my own tax money. I don’t believe that mobile betting does anything other than taking food money off the table of morons struggling to live paycheck to paycheck. I don’t believe that America’s dysfunctional court system – in my lifetime - will be able to resolve import legal questions such as vote buying, financial responsibility for AI looting all our bank accounts, or whether we can gun down corporate CEOs on the sidewalk with impunity.

Full disclosure – if I actually DO get a $5,000 bribe to vote, I plan on making a down payment on a 2027 Ford Bronco Raptor with the 400-horsepower twin turbocharged engine and 37-inch tires. There’s no way to save the planet. We already proved that with those Tesla bribes. I just want to spend my final days surf casting for pompano and redfish off Pensacola beach, and sauteing them in the evening with garlic butter, cilantro, and lime. This will likely provide better memories than mobile sports betting.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

Well, at least the fish you catch will be free (more or less) even if the cost of those fancy condiments and your ostentatious car rise by taxes intended to recover the cost of all those "free" $5000 gifts! :)

Oh, and don't forget the cost of future repairs to corrosion from driving it all over salty, sandy beaches and putting seawater-wet kit in it, as in the picture...

So you're saying the Democrats are gonna jump on board and offer me even more? This is the only thing that's ever made sense to me in the whole world.

@FloorGenAdm its a satire. sorry if i confused you. wasn't my intent

@SusanInFlorida Warning NOT a training manual...got it!

205m Americans with $1tn in their pockets will not by itself "trigger" an interest rate increase. 205m Americans all trying to buy the same pointless crap with their $5K will lead to hyper-inflation which the federal authorities will attempt to control through interest rates and taxation. The poorest in society, who are just trying to put food on the table, will bear the most pain, as usual.

@SunshineGirl Did you get your economics degree at the same bar as aoc?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@sunsporter1649 I am not an economist, but I know what causes inflation.

President-elect Joe Biden told Georgia voters on Monday that $2,000 stimulus checks would be sent out to Americans right away if the state voted for the Democratic candidates Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in Tuesday's US Senate runoffs.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@sunsporter1649 i didn't remember this. thanks
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@sunsporter1649 Which, by a remarkable coincidence, was exactly the same amount proposed by President Donald Trump on 22 December 2020 when he criticised bi-partisan legislation for offering a "joke" $600 stimulus.

Anyhow, what is the connection between a stimulus package broadly supported by the legislature and what appears to be a late night hallucination of one man?

@SusanInFlorida says
Trump’s bid for my vote in November is $5,000.
Actually, it's more accurate to say tRump's bid is
(1) offer $5k after the election
(2) fail to get it thru Congress
(3) BLAME THE DEMOCRATS!!!

Hold on a moment.

Trump may amend that to say you can't use that five grand to make a down payment on a 2027 Ford Bronco Raptor with the 400-horsepower twin turbocharged engine and 37-inch tires.

You're going to have to buy a Chinese car instead.

@beckyromero Be interesting if you tried to buy one of those banned humanoid robots.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@beckyromero are there any chinese cars sold in america? i know canada has a bunch of GM factories. do those things have tariffs now?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@beckyromero Picky Picky! As a matter of fact a 2027 Ford Bronce Raptor with a 400 HP twin turbo charged engine and 37 inch tyres WILL be more than 25% Chinese made..😷

The money isn't for libs, he spent yours defending against bogus law fare attacks, Sorry. Think of it as a lib tax, you should be good with that.

I'm always amused by people with the whole "save the world" rhetoric...

save it from what? and for whom? and why? and where did they ever get the idea that it was supposed to last forever?

whatever happened to "follow the science"? because according to science... the world has been reset about a dozen times over already and we're due for another...🤔
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@wildbill83 save the world is usually a euphemism for "preserve my personal living standards"
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@SusanInFlorida considering what is wasted on random useless bullshit, $5000 is pocket change by comparison...
