Arlington County, Va, Board Votes to Provide Up to $2,000 in Taxpayer Funds to Families of Illegal Aliens Detained by ICE

For years now, sanctuary jurisdictions across America have been refining their playbook against federal immigration enforcement. Refuse ICE detainer requests. Block local police from cooperating. Wrap the whole operation in gauzy language about “community safety” and hope nobody notices you’re actively shielding people who broke the law to be here. Maddening? Absolutely. But at least there was a line most of these localities wouldn’t cross.

That line just got obliterated. Because one Virginia county has decided that obstruction alone isn’t enough – they’ve moved on to writing checks. Not metaphorical ones. Actual taxpayer-funded payments to families whose primary earners were arrested by immigration authorities. This is what the sanctuary movement looks like when it drops all pretense.

The families of illegal immigrants arrested by ICE are set to be given $2,000 in taxpayer money in Arlington County, Virginia, after the county board set aside $50,000 for families whose primary wage earners are detained by ICE in the county.

The grants, which are being distributed by Arlington Thrive, will give up to $2,000 per impacted family to cover housing, food, and utilities if the primary breadwinner happens to be an illegal immigrant arrested by federal authorities. According to ARLnow, the measure passed with a 4 to 0 vote on September 2 in response to a surge of ICE in the greater Washington, DC area.
