@Jonjdw This is accurate and not hypothetical. Part of proposals for data centres require that they submit the amount of power they are requiring from the grid. Last year that request for power exceeded the power draw of the entire USA in 2023.

Many of these proposed data centres are straight up lying. The one backed by Kevin O'leary actually claimed they would use a cooling system that literally doesn't exist and violated the laws of thermal dynamics as presented.

This was revealed when an actual physicist looked at the proposal and also showed it would annually dump more waste heat into the environment equivalent to multiple atom bombs.

One built for Grok is expected to draw more power than Las Vegas and because they lied about how they would power the place they have already caused asthma to increase by a factor of 5x the national average in Nashville.

All because of diesel generators by the thousands.


Also AI companies are now publicly admitting they are literally running out of organic data to feed into these systems and they are seeing AI generated data being fed back into the system making performance worse.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow without reading the entire thing, just skimming it. Sounds like their problem. If they want it to work there problem. Where I live, we don’t have a problem with the power grid. We don’t have blackouts or anything.

I’m sure they will find a way and there’s nothing I can do about it anyway. Right now I just use AI because it simplifies when I need to know about something. Like if I woke up information, it summarizes it. And I can ask you questions and it’s usually pretty right.
