Stepping back from US politics for a second

Lets check the numbers that matter...
US debt to other nations in borrowings held largely in treasury paper. But also in gold held for other nations in US reserves (which may or may be be there in fact. But thats another argument.)
Approaching $40 Trillion FAST..
US Consumer debt: Mostly Credit cards, auto and other loans $18.8 Trillion (Thats about $57 K for every single American)
And a Budget Deficit in the current years of $1.4 Trillion.

None of these numbers are trending well and at least the two larger ones are all time highs with no sign of even levelling off.
Now my question, is simple. Why would any politician of either side wish to become responsible for this terminal $h*t show by winning the next US election??
I welcome an honest answer from either side..😷

@Picklebobble2 Several European nations had their gold stored in the US Federal reserve for safety, hedging against a conflict in Europe. Italy, France and Germany have all "repatriated" gold, the concensus being that it may be safer at home than in America. My information is that Germany was the first to request some of its gold back and it took over two years to actually get the deal done. While France was "encouraged" to actually sell its gold (at a handsome profit I might add) to America, rather than take physical delivery in an "Italian Job" style operation. Murmurs persist that none of these countries actually sighted their gold during these procedures..Leading to speculation it was double counted as part of the US stockpile..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Yes having seen the Trump responses when this first became an issue i wondered if he or the U.S treasury had 'purloined' it for their own accounting.
Given Trump declaring the gold standard 'dead' in Trump 1.

Sometimes, psychology says problems become so big they are ignored... The can just keeps getting kicked down the road for the future to worry about... In the meantime it's prestige and power that are the immediate goals

@Convivial I completely agree. The problem comparing to a man jumping off the Empire State Building and as he passes the twentieth floor, yelling "Everythings fine so far"😷
