Trump to rescue Canada from breaking up by making it the 51st state of the USA.

Carney has called for unity after Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced the province will hold a referendum on whether to remain in Canada. If Smith won't play ball, then the only way to save Canada is union with the USA.

President Donald Trump's ambition to annex Canada and make it the 51st state - an idea he has floated repeatedly - is Carney's last resort to save his nation.

Alberta must not be allowed to go the way of Taiwan.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Can you unpack that?

This Albertan doesn't want to be part of the USA any more than I want to be part of Canada. Trading one remote control. for another is against what I want.

@hippyjoe1955 So, you are for Alberta's independence? Fragmentation is what it is. The smaller the group, the less insignificant the individual.

@sree251 So lets look at this from a realistic point of view. If Alberta had the same number of seats in the House of Commons as the Maritimes Alberta would have 60 seats and not 37. How is being a part of something bigger making my voice bigger? If Alberta had the same senate representation as PEI it would have 97 seats. In the Senate PEI has 4 seats. Alberta has 6 seats. Do you see a problem? So Alberta has a very robust agriculture and oil and manufacturing industry. Why does the rest of the country insist on shutting them down. Alberta was selling Canola to China. In order to protect the auto industry in Ontario Alberta had to forego selling canola to China despite the fact that the income from canola vastly outstrips the money made by autos. Not to mention the Canola money is made from exports. Canada's cars are sold in Canada. Can you now begin to see the problem? Alberta was settled by the many Americans who came north in the early 1900s. As an Albertan who went to Ontario as a young man I was shocked at the visceral hatred that came from the descendants of the United Empire Loyalists. I had no idea that such bigotry was common in Canada. It still is.

That point of view is realistic only to you. You are not wrong but can you prevail?

No, I don't. Apparently, like the US, the power center of Canada is in the east. Alberta is landlocked. Secession would kill it economically and every which way. Do YOU see the problem?

Yes. Like the US, Canada does not have a government of the people for the people and by the people.

Alberta was settled by the many Americans who came north in the early 1900s. As an Albertan who went to Ontario as a young man I was shocked at the visceral hatred that came from the descendants of the United Empire Loyalists. I had no idea that such bigotry was common in Canada. It still is.

Hatred? You have to explain this to me. Here in the US, the hatred among whites are from people like me who detest progressive liberals. I am of the opinion that America has cultural roots associated with folks who came on the Mayflower and settled the "13 colonies" in the eastern part of the country. Can you explain how the "loyalists" in the Maritimes is connected to Americans of that period?

What's the background to the alleged break up?

Trump to rescue Canada? Surely you jest. The idea of Trump turning Canada into the 51st state is maybe not the worst thing that could happen to them, but with Trump involved, the only worse thing would be a natural disaster that destroyed the country.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Ontheroad Sounds like you don't like Trump but Trump is not the topic. Saving Canada from breaking up is the topic. Can you understand that?
Ontheroad · M
@sree251 yep, I get it, but better they break up than have Trump involved.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Ontheroad If Trump is involved, Canada will not break up into pieces. Quebec wants to leave also. The Chinese in Vancouver would also want British Columbia to break away.
