Let’s help Trump decide how to use his cancelled $1.8 billion weaponization fund, since that turns out to be illegal . . .

Photo above – records indicate America spent $300,000 on mall fireworks for the 1976 bicentennial celebration. The 2026 fireworks display is reportedly budgeted at $150 million - 500X more. (Disclaimer - yeah I know this picture is of the Statue of Liberty in NYC. That had a separate budget.)

It’s not often you get a chance for a do-over when spending $2 billion. The story begins when Trump sued the IRS for billions because his tax returns were leaked to the media by partisan bureaucrats. The IRS agreed this was a crime and settled out of court for $1.8 billion. So far, so bad. Not “good”, but par for the course when lawsuits arise from egregious misconduct and get settled before trial.

The president immediately pivoted to a plan to funnel this $1.8 billion into payouts for Maga supporters. Apparently in hopes of influencing the 2026 midterm elections. That turns out to be probably be illegal too, per various judges. Republicans in congress descended on the White House to make their distress known. (See links below)

So, Trump now has a windfall of $1.8 billion and the ability to do almost anything within reason to make America a better place. What would YOU do? I’m not claiming my choices are the best ones, but they’re easy to explain, and would help many of our citizens in need.

1 – Build 10,000 affordable homes at $180,000 each. No, this isn’t going to buy a suburban ranch home on 1/4 acre. . But if spent wisely this money could deliver town houses, condos, and manufactured housing (mobile homes). Bonus factor – it could shame aspiring 2028 presidential hopefuls Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris. California has only managed to rebuild 30 homes since the 2025 wildfires. Of course, you can’t build a $180,000 home in Los Angeles County. Those homes would have to be constructed in places without an ocean view or sky-high taxes. Build it and they will come?

2 – Stop the Fentanyl crisis. 70,000 overdose deaths in 2025. Spend the newfound billions to halt smuggling, shut down domestic production, and a jail the law enforcement and court officials who have been corrupted by drug profits. And no, do NOT appoint Elon Musk to head up "DONE" - the Department of Narcotics Elimination.

3 – Build the power plants we need. It costs roughly $1 million per megawatt hour of generating capacity (gas turbines assumed. It’s 5X more for nuclear). For this investment the USA could add 2 million megawatt hours of electricity. I’m not insisting on gas turbines, but finding space for that many wind turbines or ground based solar panels fraught with regulatory and public impact hearings. Approval could take years. We need the electricity right now. But we might get the same benefit from reining in runaway AI data center construction, I suppose.

4 – There are a bunch of other things Trump could try. Better medical care for veterans. Better medical care for infants at risk. School choice programs. GED high school degree programs for dropouts who are now drug free, and sincerely want literacy and the skills to support themselves. I can come up with this stuff all day.

I’m not sure the White House will deliver on any of these things. If spending smarter was a priority, we wouldn’t be shelling out $1 billion a day to bomb Iran’s missile and rocket sites and evidently missing them over and over.

If you have ideas on how to spend the $1.8 billion “weaponization windfall”, you are invited to reply to this thread below. Or send your suggestions directly to the White House. Since the 250th birthday party for America is apparently being curtailed due to lack of interest, Trump's advisors may have more free time to consider them.

I’m just sayin’ . .

I'm not sure he will have any further say in those misappropriated funds. It looks as though he is going to be facing some pretty serious questions over collusion in his corrupt lawsuit. But investment in affordable housing or literacy/numeracy schemes would be good and unobjectionable uses of tax dollars.

Personally, I don't care what he spends the money on ooh. Really to me is you had people like Nancy Pelosi saying he should release his tax returns when. She already knew what was in them. As speaker of the house she had access to any person's tax returns. But she is not legally allowed to say what is in them.
