@lpthehermit Don't forget the 80's when mortgage loans were over 10% And the early 70's when we waited in gas lines. But we are told that THIS little crisis will end the world. 🤣

Ram trucks in Canada are generally considered affordable compared to other brands. The recent price reductions for the 2025 Ram 1500 lineup have made these trucks more accessible, with the entry-level Tradesman starting at CAD $58,740, including destination and air conditioning taxes. This price reduction reflects Ram's strategy to strengthen its presence in the competitive Canadian truck market and offers greater value for consumers. The new pricing structure includes a $2,195 destination fee and a $100 federal air conditioning tax, making the Ram 1500 Tradesman a more attainable entry point for consumers.
www.ramtruck.ca

Did I read that right? Canada charges extra for an Air Conditioning Tax? 🤣

FYI I love my big Ram Truck with crew cab and long bed, 4x4 only enough lift to clear 35" tires

This is my 5th Ram and I have never had problems. If you Canucks were smart you would buy one.

Make sure you get the bucket seats, and at least the "Laramie" package. You will have
to pay extra for the Airconditioned seats. 🤣

@sree251 I don't really care for Trump or his style. I consider myself a compassionate conservative.

I don't really understand the current war. I see both sides. My friend that escaped Persia in 1979

really wants Persia back. The radical Islamists are not good people according to him.

But I don't know if Trump is doing the right thing. I have no power, time will tell.

If Trump screws up, the Dems will take the midterms, and if he screws up more they will
take power in 2028. Thats all I know for sure.

The world will not end with what Trump is doing.

Lets just hope another virus isn't released.

Lets also hope the San Andreas fault stays together.
@DogMan says
The world will not end with what Trump is doing.
True.

But the US has been greatly weakened by what tRump has been doing. He is growing the debt like never before just to keep taxes low for the super-rich. ICE has routinely violated the Constitutional rights of citizens. The DoJ has been weaponized like never before. And that's just in the US.

People in many countries now view the US as a greater threat than China. https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/07/15/views-of-the-us-have-worsened-while-opinions-of-china-have-improved-in-many-surveyed-countries/

Killing USAID did much more damage than you might realize.
USAID funding, particularly between 2001 and 2021, is estimated to have saved approximately 4 to 5 million lives annually, totaling around 92 million lives over that two-decade period, according to a 2025 The Lancet study. These interventions primarily reduced mortality from HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and child mortality, with estimates suggesting 30 million children under five were saved.

Saving all those lives via USAID health programs cost us about $6.2 billion per year (2022) out of $6.16 total spending. That's 0.1% of the budget, and it bought us a LOT of goodwill around the world. All trashed by DOGE for minimal savings.

Another big US advantage had been the petrodollar; the Saudis only accepted dollars for their oil and many oil nations followed suit. That just died; they now accept yuan. This means the dollar is less of a world currency than it used to be, thanks to tRump.

Our European allies don't trust us, and our Gulf allies have been attacked for allying with us, and we are increasingly seen as "the bad guy." Dollar power, goodwill, and the approval of developed countries -- these are all forms of soft power we spent half a century building. And tRump has cheapened and debased them all.

My Ram is like a luxury car, heated and airconditioned seats of fine leather. lumbar support
that moves up and down the back...etc.

All cars AND trucks come with all that equipment today, DogMan... even a Volkswagen. What you're driving regardless of the trim level you've purchased, is a low-cost entry-level pickup truck that ranks as the cheapest truck to buy on the market.

The Ram has the highest depreciation rate of all truck brands on the market; it has the highest unscheduled maintenance cost of all truck brands on the market and it has the worst safety record of any other vehicle on the road including cars, simply because it's made by Stellantis who do not pour their R&D resources into safety equipment.

In crash tests results, all Stellantis-manufactured vehicles have received a failing grade and their vehicles are declared "unsafe" and not recommended for purchase, which means "buyer beware".

Too bad you're always the last one to know these things ...4 trucks later! 🤣

You run and hide. I think that's a great plan. And don't forget to close the door and lock it tight. I know people just like you who locked themselves indoor and waited for the bodies to pile up in 2020.

If you don't mind, I am going to invest in index funds and ride the market up. But by all means, please....for your own well being, close and lock that door tightly.

1) the US interest that is being protected over there is 'Israel' and always has been.

This is the general supposition. What is the reason, though? There is talk that Trump is controlled by zionist Jews both in the US and in Israel. If Trump cooperates, he gets rewarded with wealth; if he doesn't cooperate, he and his family get it in the neck by you know who.

My surmise is that Israel and the US have selfish reason to work together.

Israel has been the highest recipient of US financial assistance since WWII who are given a whopping 1% of US GDP annually as a free handout.

That 1% is not free money. It goes to securing control of the Middle East. The US need this as a hegemon and world superpower. Israel need this to protect its own survival in a world that hates it. So, that 1% goes to suppression of any resistance to US/Israeli domination.
swirlie · 31-35, F
@sree251
1) the US interest that is being protected over there is 'Israel' and always has been.

This is the general supposition. What is the reason, though?

The US provides annual financial support to Israel primarily to bolster a key strategic ally in the Middle East, to ensure regional stability and to share Intel and security technology. The financial aid, mostly military funding, serves US interests by funding American defense manufacturers, aiding joint projects like the Iron Dome and supporting regional deterrence against adversaries like Iran.

The majority of US aid, often referred to as Foreign Military Financing, is used by Israel to purchase advanced American-made weapons and defense equipment, creating jobs and supporting the US defense industry.

The US uses this funding to maintain a balance of power and counter the influence of Iran and affiliated militant groups in the region.

The US has provided over $300 billion in total assistance to Israel since 1948. While the vast majority is for military purposes, this financial support enables joint research, development and security cooperation that contributes to US security interests, or so the legend goes.
On the other hand, in countries that are forward looking this will spur the expansion of electric vehicles and the supporting infrastructure and allow a faster market penetration of the next generation of Chinese EVs, further eroding the US competition (such as it was) and leaving those late comers to the market to fall behind. I am looking at you America..😷

I know about "cord wood" because I was born and raised on a tobacco farm in south-western Ontario, Canada.

Thanks for the good read.

How come you have such a kinky avatar?
@sree251 I dont claim to speak for Swirlie. But personally I think a certain type of American holds onto the truck and trucker as a modern equivalent to the cowboy and needs that but ungainly gas guzzling symbol to feel like a real "Murican". Now real Truckers are the arteries of many countries right now. But that doesnt mean they all have to be John Wayne or Randolph Scott..😷

Yes, very wholesome ex-farm girl. I even eat vegetables daily and I don't drink alcohol or use drugs, but I do swear a lot and I don't go to church on Sundays.

How come I have such a kinky avatar? I don't really know! I've never actually considered my little outfit I'm wearing in the pic to be 'kinky' before I bought it, considering it's only made of leather and held together with a bunch of metal studs.

I'd call it "eclectic" for sure, but I'm not so sure I'd call it "kinky".

@Gibbon You need to get out there and walk Gibbon. Its good for the body AND mind.

Do you know that as we get older we lose 50% of the strength in our legs because we use
our arms to get out of chairs. Try doing the sit-stand every day. 3 sets of 10 repetitions without
using your hands

Just trying to help. We need to use it or lose it. I'm 67 and still ride dirt bikes at a high level
because of all the exercise I do. 2 weeks ago I took a tumble and tucked and rolled, i didn't
get injured due to my strength conditioning. I was a little stiff for a couple days though.

DogMan · 61-69, M

help to keep you mobile longer.

I'm kind of an anomaly. Been a gym rat for over 50 years. I love exercise. The thing people do
not realize is that it helps the mind as much as the body.

Try not to be sedentary.

So your rationale is because the economy is good, it's gonna be bad? 🙄

I am no economist. I am reporting what the economists are saying.

The primary cause of the crash of '29 was due to so many investors over extending themselves and were unable to cover margin calls.

Like I said, I am no economist. I am just hanging out here where losers gather to kill time.

The cause of the housing market crash of 2008 was caused by the government forcing banks to loosen their lending requirements to buyers who otherwise wouldn't qualify because of the risk of being unable to pay their mortgages. Look up the Community Reinvestment Act and redlining (thank you Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton). Not only did many more investors qualify for loans, lenders increased the amounts people could borrow against their income. The demand for housing rose, in entity dropped, driving housing prices up. Loans were bundled together into MBSs, and then the foreclosures began. Crash!

Yeah, that is what we all learn from watching movies.

So, tell us about the market fundamentals now that are going to cause the next crash.

You will have to consult Professor Jeffery Sachs on this. I watch his podcasts. Do you?
@sree251 Up to a point thats true. Its complicated. But the crib notes version is that the $US has been artificially kept afloat by prinint money for over a decade now. since "Quantitative Easing"in fact. about 2011. Now thats all very well under Keysian economics, but the rules are it can only go on for so long, it should be aof r a constructive purpose. And the money has to be paid back eventually.
If all three of those conditions arent met, then the debt leaks into the system in the form of diluting the value of the currency. Thats inflation if it happens with the national economy.. Or devaluation of the currency if the nation spends up on imports. Those are just economic facts. And America has broken all three of those rules. The longer you keep printing, the less effective it is in saving the economy..And you reach the point where inflation becomes hyperinflation. America being the international reserve currency and gaming the international banking system allowed it to go on longer than most. But the grip in that title has slipped and the other nations are now buying from each other without paying America a commission. In a recession/depression the volume of trade drops. That hurts everyone. The nations that import more than they export get hurt more.. And the country whose currency fewer people want get hurt the most..America will soon have a drop in domestic comsumption in real terms. Get less revenue for the goods it expoerts and pay more for the goods it imports. Do I need to connect that to employment and conditions and from there to taxation revenue?
America is agoing to be hurt as badly as any other banana republic. Even the Tourism is stuffed..
DogMan · 61-69, M
@sree251 Everyone should be prepared for outages. I am on a well, so if I lose electricity I lose
water. I keep two 55 gallon barrels of purified water, along with about 25 1 gallon filled containers.

I also have long term food storage stored in a cool dry area.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@sree251 The entire planet will be affected by the economic depression. No place is safe except off-grid on a vegetable farm.

It would take more than an economic depression. During the great depression unemployment

to work and provide.

You must have been really worried under Obama and Biden when all we could do is wait for
Trump to be elected for gas prices to come down.

But I have a feeling you didn't care about high gas prices back then, did you? It was OK
because people drove less and didn't pollute the air, right? But under Trump..........it's different.

I don't care either if Trump is just another Joe yanking everybody's chain. But he is gotten into the driver seat of the plane we are flying in and not going where I want to go. Are you going where he is going? You said you have a farm. What the hell are you growing? Or is it just a hobby farm?

I consider myself a compassionate conservative.

Conservative is good. Compassionate smells of Bill Gates and his care for the human race.

I don't really understand the current war.

I don't either; especially, our military bases there to protect US interests that seem to be all over the goddam planet. What does protecting American interests means? Are those interests within American national territory or inclusive of the whole damn world and soon extending to the moon?

I see both sides. My friend that escaped Persia in 1979

really wants Persia back. The radical Islamists are not good people according to him.

I believe that. There are folks in the US who want our country back also. It's funny that China is not playing our game and actively stoking our deep hatred for each other. It doesn't take much for the Chinese to motivate war refugees in any state of the US, if paid CIA rates, to slit our throats as well. The UK is in a deeper hole than we are.

But I don't know if Trump is doing the right thing. I have no power, time will tell.

I don't know WHAT he is doing either but I do know HOW he is doing it. He is using US military might to be a goddam bully, and that's not right. Imagine Trump and his posses breaking down the door to get Maduro and his wife, and finds Clint Eastwood with his 44 Magnum in the way. Would you still be confused about who the bad guy is?

If Trump screws up, the Dems will take the midterms, and if he screws up more they will
take power in 2028. Thats all I know for sure.

I voted for Trump in 2024. At this point, I am no longer invested in the US political system.

The world will not end with what Trump is doing.

The world will not let Trump go much further. Thanks to Trump, the US is done as world policeman.

🤣... I have taken on guys since I was a teenager in high school, sree251!

In fact, I took on my English Teacher as well as the school Principal who sided with my incompetent English Teacher and I got expelled twice, the first time in my first year of high school and the second time in my senior year.

Rather than face their truth and admit that I was right, my English Teacher continued to lie and the Principal tried to shut me up by expelling me twice.

But I went after those two asswholes and I wrote about their unsavory antics in a local newspaper which had an opinion page for contributing writers in their Saturday Edition. They didn't want to hear it from me, so let them read about it is what I said.

And no, I'm not even an American and thank Christ for that, just for the record.

That is not a kinky outfit I'm wearing; it's only a leather top with leather forearm covers that are matched with kid leather, full-length tailored pants which I wear with leather high-heeled ankle boots.

Meh, you're being dramatic.

Yes, I am. My aim is to provoke discussion.

The oil markets are being manipulated, is all. Also, various countries are putting their oil reserves on the market to cash in, and to lower price.

Have you ever traded commodities? I dabbled in forex one time. It was like riding the waves on an ocean. It is deep. Manipulating the commodity market needs the power of God, like a Neptune commanding the storms. No one, not even the wealthiest of nations, would be foolish enough to wade all in. Leveraging a small amount at 10 to 1 protected by the execution speed of automated trading is what everyone does.

The aim is to "starve" Iran so it cannot get high price for its oil, or put its oil on the market.

We all have aims until we get punched in the mouth, as Mike Tyson said.

But China has put a stop to that. Largely by giving two fingers to the US and its piss on "blockade" and getting oil out of Iran anyway.

Xi Jinping is Chinese. He wouldn't make Trump lose face.

Trump fears Russia or China directly entering the war. Especially as Russia is about a month or two away from liberating Ukraine.....

Trump has no fears. This doesn't means he has courage. He is just blind to the downside like a kid playing on the balcony on the penthouse floor at Trump Tower.

How about during Covid when many shelves were bare?

Fortunately, I don't have to work for a living. Most of the time, I was living abroad in Europe and Asia as a tourist until December, 2019 when I came home just before Covid broke out. Oil prices did not bother me because I hardly drove except to the store to top up my hoard in the basement that looked like a well-stocked mini Walmart store.

I suffered no problems during covid or during any of the recessions, did you?

I was blessed like you also. People, even my fit 25 year-old car mechanic, were dropping dead around me. I never has any symptoms and took no vaccines. Never had ever since I was born. Mom has no faith in modern medicine. She gave birth to me at home with help from a midwife.

Trust the market results for what reason?

Park your TDS aside for a minute, and tell me where the market and economic fundamentals are pointing to a financial collapse you seem to be rooting for. We'll wait.

In the meantime, some classes in economics and finance might help you understand. There is an even more significant geopolitical aspect of what Trump has done, and he's checkmated the globalists who've controlled the world's energy distribution. I told you days ago, this thing is over...it'll eventually sink in with you.

BTW...I don't gamble - that favors the house. I do, however, save and invest - that favors the investor. Do you understand the difference?

The market is a gambling den, economic fundamentals are something else. You were talking about the market, right?

I have said many times that I am not an economist. Whatever I post here are what Professor Jeffery Sachs said. You have your opinion, expert or not, and he has his. I doubt there are any experts in this forum.

BTW...I don't gamble - that favors the house. I do, however, save and invest - that favors the investor. Do you understand the difference?

I do. I did gamble on odd occasions, nothing significant. I am averse to it because my father, a wealthy man, was a compulsive gambler in the commodities market. He lost everything. I am not an investor either. Nothing favors your kind of investor; namely, the retail investor. You are among a bunch of sheep putting savings into brokerage accounts or running hither thither yourselves based on what Mad Money says. I don't have time for that; and despite what my personal bank rep says, I plunk everything into Treasuries.
