Michigan law enforcement officials are responding to reports of an active shooter at a synagogue on Thursday.

Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield police were seen outside of the Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan, where a fire reportedly also broke out amid reports of shots being fired, according to multiple outlets. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) were also reportedly on scene.

Reports indicated a car drove into the building just before 1 pm., when shots were fired shortly after, according to the New York Post.

Michigan State Police posted on X that the agency was aware of the incident and announced an increased presence of patrols at other religious places of worship in the district.

“We are asking for community members to stay away from the area to allow for police response. ”

Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel wrote on X that agency personnel were on scene and responding to “the apparent vehicle ramming and active shooter situation.”
