What was the Iran nuclear deal?
Obama campaigned on a promise to make sure that Iran did not obtain a nuclear weapon. His administration secured an agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, that was signed in 2015 by the United States and Iran as well as China, Russia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Under the deal, Iran agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons and to allow continuous monitoring of its compliance in exchange for relief from economic sanctions. The agreement was scheduled to last between 10 and 25 years. It has been 11 years.
On top of the deal expiring, Iran was also hiding all enrichment underground and was not
letting the nuclear commission inspect. They were doing this while saying "Death to America"
and "Death to Israel"

The plan under Obama was a rigorous technical inspection regime of Iran's facilities. Key parts of the inspection instrumentation were implemented and verified by Obama's Energy Secretary, an MIT nuclear physicist named Dr Ernest Moniz. On June 12, 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) formally declared Iran in breach of its non-proliferation obligations for the first time since 2005, citing failures to cooperate on undeclared nuclear material and activities www.faf.ae. The IAEA’s June 2025 report found Iran had accumulated 441 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% this is far higher than needed for nuclear energy.
