What was the Iran nuclear deal?
Obama campaigned on a promise to make sure that Iran did not obtain a nuclear weapon. His administration secured an agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, that was signed in 2015 by the United States and Iran as well as China, Russia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Under the deal, Iran agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons and to allow continuous monitoring of its compliance in exchange for relief from economic sanctions. The agreement was scheduled to last between 10 and 25 years. It has been 11 years.
On top of the deal expiring, Iran was also hiding all enrichment underground and was not
letting the nuclear commission inspect. They were doing this while saying "Death to America"
and "Death to Israel"

@Waveney This is not opinion.
On June 12, 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) formally declared Iran in breach of its non-proliferation obligations for the first time since 2005, citing failures to cooperate on undeclared nuclear material and activities www.faf.ae. The IAEA’s June 2025 report found Iran had accumulated 441 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% this is far higher than needed for nuclear energy.

@DogMan But it is opinion that Iran was building a nuclear weapon. And this is also opinion: if the JPCOA treaty had not been ripped up by Trump in a fit of jealousy, this situation would never have occurred. All the problems occurred after the treaty had been ripped up.
But this is fact: This situation has been caused by Trump, and Trump alone.

@Gibbon And in return for dropping sanctions, which is what that money was tied into, Iran stopped its nuclear enrichment program. This was verified by the IAEA right up to the point that Trump ripped up the treaty in a fit of jealousy.
Then the problems began again: enrichment went up, IAEA inspectors were barred, and we now have yet another illegal war in which American lives, as well as those of schoolchildren, are being needlessly lost.
This is Trump's fault, and Trump's alone.

@Waveney I think he was directing that "dumber than a box of rocks" to you.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@nudistsueaz exactly
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@Gibbon I though so, seems he is a little slow in understanding, maybe.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@nudistsueaz Yeah he's always defending the terrorist regime. Makes you wonder about his agenda
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@Gibbon OMG yes it does!!!
Waveney · M
@nudistsueaz No I'm not. I'm not the one who said that IAEA verified Iran's nuclear programme right up to 2018 - the IAEA themselves did. So therefore, I am suggesting to Gibbon that he actually believes that the IAEA was dumber than a box of rocks. Or does @Gibbon know something they didn't?
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@Waveney That's true but it doesn't have the right to harass the rest of the world and kill people.
Waveney · M
@nudistsueaz Neither does Israel, but it does it anyway. And no one questions Israel's right to "defend itself"

@nudistsueaz What's your point? Israel harasses the rest of the world, (well, the Middle East, just like Iran) and kills people. But Israel has the right to "defend itself" and Iran doesn't?
