Kamala Harris may yet be the Democratic nominee in 2028.

Kamala Harris is topping some new polls of Democratic White House contenders, a sign the former vice president and 2024 presidential nominee has staying power despite her defeat to President Trump.

It’s a reality that flies in the face of some of the talk after that race, in which Democrats talked about turning the page, with some calling for the party to move on from a stale playbook and to look for new leaders.

A poll from Focaldata released last week is the most recent 2028 Democratic poll. It found that 39 percent of registered voters said they would support Harris if she ran. The poll said 21 percent of those surveyed would support California Gov. Gavin Newsom, followed by 10 percent for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

The survey also showed that 82 percent of voters who backed Harris in 2024 held a favorable opinion of her, while 8 percent held an unfavorable view. A Tavern Research/Searchlight Institute survey out last month also showed that 90 percent of Democratic likely voters had a favorable view of the former vice president.

If she gets the nomination, I'm not voting.
@BohoBabe I didn't vote the last time, and if Kamala is on it again, I won't vote again.

Then I'd imagine both of you are quite happy with Donald Trump.

@beckyromero So here's now I'm seeing things.

If the Democrats nominate a do-nothing moderate like Gavin Newsom or Kamala Harris, they'll probably win, and things will go back to normal. But normal isn't good enough. Normal is so many Americans living paycheck to paycheck, that they reelected Trump even after the dumpster fire of 2020. Basically, we'd push back Fascism for another four years, then the Republicans would win again. In addition to that, millions of Americans will just give up on politics, because they'll think nothing is ever going to get better. Whereas if the Republicans win in 2028, their popularity will continue plummeting, and there will be a chance of nominating an actual left-leaning Progressive in the next election.
But then on the other hand, when Democrats lose, they always shift to the Right. So IDK, maybe if they lose in 2028, the next election will be Fascist vs Fascist. Maybe I'll change my mind, but right now, I'm leaning towards voting not mattering if Newsom is the frontrunner.

Here's how see it:

I think you ought to go to a meeting of Gam-Anon.

Because you are gambling with the future of our country by hoping four more years of fascism will led to "an actual left-leaning Progressive in the next election."

"Next election"? You think the fascists are going to simply give up control if they have eight consecutive years in power?

In every country that lost its democracy, the Fascists were true-believers willing to risk their lives for Fascism. Nobody in MAGA is like that.

@beckyromero I think most of those people didn't believe they were risking their lives because the Republicans were still in control of the government at the time.

But ok, let's assume they were aware they could have been shot at any moment. There's still two things to consider. One is that none of those people were politicians, and they were a small minority of MAGA supporters. Within MAGA, there are few people with any amount of power who aren't nihilist. The few who actually do believe in something, like Stephen Miller and Peter Thiel, don't have the balls to risk their lives.
Secondly, a lot of those rioters aren't part of MAGA anymore. The Qanon Shaman has turned on Trump over his refusal to release the full Epstein Files. Over these past two years, the few MAGA supporters who actually believed in something have already left the cult.
