It's east to figure out why....can't tax their earnings from shoveling snow without proper id

Maybe you should post the reason, and not just your uniformed story taken out of context.
Yes, for a major winter storm in February 2026, New York City is requiring individuals who sign up to be paid "Emergency Snow Shovelers" to provide multiple forms of identification, including two small photos, two original forms of ID (plus copies), and a Social Security card.

Here are the details regarding this requirement:
Why ID is Required: The NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) requires this documentation to verify employment eligibility (I-9 compliance) and for payroll purposes.
The Job: These are paid, temporary, per diem positions ($19.14–$28.71 per hour) to clear snow from bus stops, crosswalks, and fire hydrants.
Context: This policy has drawn public attention and criticism because it contrasts with NYC's voting policy, where most registered voters do not need to show photo ID at the polls.

Key Requirements for Temporary Shovelers:

Eligible to work in the U.S..

This is a formal hiring process for temporary city workers, not a mandate for residents to shovel their own private property.

@ron122 So, if you have a job, you didn't have to give them ID or get a w-9 form? How did you get paid? Apparently you work for cash under the table, which is illegal.

@independentone So you are against voter ID? I have no problem with showing ID for employment or voting.

@ron122 I vote by mail in ballot. I registered, and have no problem with the State sending me a ballot so I don't have to stand in some line somewhere.
If you choose to stand in a line to vote, I have no problem with showing my drivers license for ID. I do have a problem having to show citizenship papers or birth certificates. I'm not sure I could find my birth certificate if my life depended on it, much less to vote.

Quit lying that this is about voter fraud.
Even according to the Heritage Foundation there has only been 77 cases in 24 years.
That is less than the number of J 6 Trump cultists that have been re-arrested on child abuse and CSAM charges.
People who I am sure you want to protect their right to vote.

Desperately trying to justify rigging elections.
Find where it says you also have to present a 200 dollar passport and it has to match your birth certificate.
I will wait.
