The EU knows beefing up Greenland security is crucial for them and too cheap to pay for it

Greenland guards Europe from access by Russia and China by sea on their WESTERN shores. Far worse would be Russia and China gaining footholds in Greenland making their attack by sea on the western shores of Europe even easier. In addition over time polar sea lanes have become easier to access. Access by the US and Europe would be easily protected by a strong US presence in Greenland. Although there aren’t many of them Greenlanders benefit. Neither them or Europe has the means to provide the necessary military security. The life of Greenlanders themselves will be not harmed by changing oversight from Denmark to DC. If multitudes of people wanted to emigrate there they already would have. For the same reasons there won’t be mass emigration from the US. Greenlanders will have enhanced personal wealth, job opportunities and a vastly improved economy and infrastructure and be well paid to receive that benefit. Both Greenland and the US will benefit from the processing of rare earth reserves. A win for Greenland, a win for Europe all paid for by the US. The US benefited from the Louisiana purchase and the purchase and the Alaska purchase. This transaction will be the same.

A glance at the polar map provided clearly shows the proximity of Russia and China using Arctic sea lanes and the potential of command of those sea lanes by a strong US military presence there.

A glance at your map above shows that Greenland protects western Europe from . . Canada.

You are justifying old fashioned colonialism here. An American presence in Greenland guarantees nothing. Trump has eroded existing alliances and his word can clearly no longer be trusted.
Guess if you were a Jeopardy contestant GEOGRAPHY is a category that wouldn’t go your way. @SunshineGirl

@jackjjackson Geography is on our doorstep. In over 10 centuries of European invasion by Russia or its antecedents, Greenland has never featured as a strategic consideration.
@SunshineGirl opening sea lanes have changed that.

@jackjjackson Russia has over 4,000km of land border with Europe and Ukraine which it frequently crosses. It has an enclave facing the Baltic Sea. That has not changed.
Correct. This has. AND it aids China which doesn’t have those contiguous border Russia has. @SunshineGirl

@jackjjackson You really think China wants to invade western Europe? Wtf for?
They enjoy worldwide coverage. They are everywhere. @SunshineGirl

@jackjjackson As far as territorial claims go, I think they are preoccupied with Taiwan (which is where Trump should be focusing any attention). As for the rest, they increase Chinese influence and prosperity through trade and aid. Something America might like to rediscover . .
Uh huh @SunshineGirl
@SunshineGirl

Horse plop. Why the hell would anyone want to colonize the 30K people of Greenland? Do you even bother to think about whether or not the narrative actually makes sense before saying it?

A 4 year old can recognize Greenland's geopolitical significance to North America. It would make the EU a helluva lot safer.

@BizSuitStacy The EU was so mad, they sent in troops. All 35 of 'em
I think you counted some twice. At least. For two days. @TexChik

@SunshineGirl Europe failing to bolster their own defenses as the NATO agreement requires and EXPECTING the US to eat the cost of supplying the extra protection has damaged their own security . Germany buys Russian oil and gas undermining the advantage NATO had controlling Russia's income. Its not Trump's fault
