Those of us who have lived long enough have seen average life-expectancy significantly extended in our lifetimes, and probably can be a little longer. Just like genetically modified plants.
That doesn't mean the quality will be worth the extra years, or that immortality is obtainable. Even tortoises and redwoods eventually die.
As Yuval Noah Harari has posited, if all the billionaires in the world who waste their money chasing immortality spent that money on improving the quality of life on this planet, humanity would be far better served.
