Serious question. The photos I see, most are just wearing their own clothes and an ICE vest, and hats with whatever commercial logo or brand. If no uniforms, why?

ICE statutorily have limited law enforcement powers, involving immigration and customs. They frequently confuse lines of authority with local law enforcement at multi-force incidents with their vests overstating their powers as POLICE/ICE and having uniforms with prominently displayed badges would only add to that issue. I suspect that is their justification.

In reality, I believe the mask as a badge with no name tag tells you all you need to know. A uniform with a badge and name tag would make them more publicly accountable.

@dancingtongue that’s my thought. If the dressed and acted like police, maybe people would respect them more. Instead they dress and act like a paramilitary group, because fundimentally that is what they want to be.

Probably for the same reason the NSDAP became associated with brown shirts. It was what was readily available at the army surplus shop (I am not kidding).

I think they have uniforms but are not suited for cold weather, so they improvise to keep warm
