Trump Cracks Down on Border Money Service Businesses to Stop Cartel Money Laundering

“At President Trump’s direction, the Treasury Department is utilizing all tools to stop terrorist cartels, drug traffickers, and human smugglers,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent in a prepared statement. “This sweeping operation will help root out potential cartel-related money laundering from the U.S. financial system.”

It’s almost impossible to believe the sheer scale of this infiltration. This isn’t just a minor issue; it’s a systemic rot that was allowed to fester for years. President Trump’s Treasury Department is now engaged in a full-scale financial war, targeting over 100 of these shady businesses. They sorted through over a million separate financial reports to uncover this network. Think about that. Our own system was so compromised that it took a massive operation just to figure out how much we were being robbed.

So how did they pull it off? Through something called a “money service business,” or MSB. For you and me, it’s a place to cash a paycheck. For the cartels, it’s a laundromat for blood money. Simple as that. Because these businesses deal heavily in cash, they offer a convenient veil of anonymity to wash the profits from fentanyl and human trafficking.

This is why the strategy to “follow the money,” as national security experts call it, is so brilliant. Instead of just playing defense at the border, the administration is going on offense. They are hitting the cartels where it truly hurts: their bottom line. By choking off their access to cash, we cripple their ability to operate. This isn’t just a policy change; it’s a strategic counter-offensive.

Let’s be brutally honest about what this money represents. Every dollar laundered is another funeral for a teenager who overdosed on fentanyl. Every transaction cleared is another life ruined by human traffickers. While past leaders offered empty words, this illicit economy exploded into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise funding the destruction of our communities.

You’ll hear some people complain that cracking down like this creates a “burden” on businesses. A burden? The real burden is the American family shattered by cartel-supplied drugs. The real burden is the overwhelmed hospital dealing with yet another overdose. Asking a business to follow the law is not a burden; it’s the absolute bare minimum required to operate in a civilized country.

This operation is exactly what happens when you put a real leader in charge. President Trump promised to get tough on the cartels, and this is what getting tough actually looks like. It’s not about photo ops or press conferences. It’s about using the full might of the U.S. government—from the Treasury to the IRS—to dismantle the financial infrastructure of our enemies.

Money-laundering through obscure front businesses in many countries and governments really do have to come down very hard on it, co-operating where necessary and possible.

Among the measures I'd like to see here in the UK, and elsewhere including the USA as would be feasible under those nations' domestic legislation and tax systems:

Complete, immediate and total ban on "shell" companies, wirth closure having immediate effect and no appeal. These, often with opaque names and box-number "addresses", perform no real trading and are most likely within murky international chains of illegitimate transactions.

Any company, from sole trader upwards, to have a physical office address and telephone-number (if the proprietor's home that should be kept confidential) and owner's / managing-director's name registered with the banks and tax authorities, in its home country of operation; and similar information in any other in which it establishes a branch.

Its public face may use the anonymity and opacity of a web-site, but it shall still have a physical base known to the relevant authorities. (In the UK these are mainly Companies House, HMRC, local council, any applicable trade bodies or accreditation-registrars, and its bank.)

Any company shall state publicly its business, within or as a by-line to, its name; shall advertise its services or products publicly, openly and honestly, and shall have its account with a major bank in its own and in each of any subsidiary countries.

It shall furnish all details required by the tax authorities and banks. If these show no evidence of actual, verifiable sales, it shall be closed forthwith with the accounts frozen until all debts and tax liabilities have been discharged; the proprietors / directors being held personally responsible for assisting that, and barred from similar future directorships.

......

Complete, immediate and total ban on "exporting" territory.

A foreigner may own a private home or a business premises, but if so the title in the land upon which it stands will held independently. (In the UK, by for example the site's developer, the estate-agent / mortgage-lender or the Town or County Council.)

Agricultural and forestry land, private beaches and areas covered by protections such as NP, SSSI or AONB*, shall not be sold abroad; but like the buildings may be leased within the country for bona-fide, auditable purposes whether residence or business. The presumption for farm and wood land is that it shall remain as such while under overseas ownership.

....

All personnel operating any such businesses shall be responsible personally for ensuring compliance with all the relevant laws within the country of operation; covering taxes, planning, employee-protection and any applicable product or service standards regulations (e.g. those behind the "CE" markings on physical products).

Other accreditations such as the ISO9001 management-control, are not compulsory by law but may be demanded by major customers.

Any person not abiding by these rules shall be barred from own-company directorship for a mimimum or ten years, and will be responsible for co-operating with settling its liabilities including taxes.

.......

A complete and immediate ban on the sales of landline telephone numbers. Those already sold, if not in genuine use by a bona-fide business or household within its code area in its own country, shall be terminated with no more than 24 hours' notice.

There is a sizeable, very dubious trade by agents selling London and other major city numbers to anyone, irrespective of physical location, for the kudos. How and why this has happened I have no idea but it needs destroying.

A complete and immediate ban on accommodation-addresses. All communications shall be to and from the company's physical location, even if that is also the owner's home.

* Respectively: National Park, Site of Special Scientific Interest and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

(I think the last has been re-named.) These place tight planning-consent rules so people can use them, live in them and go about their business, but without damaging what makes the areas valuable to everyone.

I should explain a National Park in the UK is totally unlike some other nations'. It is not a wilderness pickled in aspic. It is a living area of countryside, mainly agricultural; containing farms and other small businesses, villages, roads and sometimes railways, and assorted tourist attractions. Rather like France's "Parcs Regionelle".

As for SSSIs... Donald Trump wangled permission to replace one in Scotland with a mere golf-course and hotel for the wealthy! (Shell company MDs included, no doubt.)

Trump 's war on drugs lost all credibility when he pardoned one of the most prolific cocaine distributers in history.
Or when he bombs boats falsely claiming they are bringing fentyal.
And it's odd you are so hyped about money laundering from mexican cartels, but aren't even curious about money laundering connected to your orange god.

But...if this investigation pans out, cuddos. Hitting cartels in the bank is productive.
@Carla Kind of half-hearted.
"kudos"

@LamontCranston Sort of strange how hard the left-wing nut-job marxists are fighting against the war on drugs. Makes one wonder why....
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
Yeah, and the democrats hate him for doing just that....exactly what we elected him for
the entire process to get from A- Z would be a lot faster if we just audit all congress and senate and see whos receiving money they have no bizz receiving...
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Yeah.. Those cartels should be laundering their money through his Florida and NY real estate operational, like his Russian friends do..😷
Carla · 61-69, F
@sunsporter1649 you mean the ones YOU keep expounding on? I have not once, ever expressed an opinion on that tape.
But boy...you are certainly interested in it
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Carla ....and hunters laptop is ruskie disinformation, and "less than 100" American
citizens were abandoned to raghead terrorists, and President Trump loves dictators, and Joe Rogan said he’s not
voting for Trump, and The Constitution ‘clearly states that a felon cannot take elective office’, and Melania
Trump said she wants a divorce, and the bordes are secure, and biden is as sharp as a tack, and iran wants
nukes to power their country, and the planet is cooling, and the planet is warming, and the planet is undergoing
climate change, and there was plenty of water in LA, and boys are really girls, and 140 officers were assaulted
on January 6, and pelosi never rejected National Guard troops before Jan 6, and the Biden Administration did not
spend millions on “making mice transgender.”, and Gen. Colin Powell’s name has been removed from a list of
notable Americans buried at Arlington Cemetery, and “no president” presided over more plane crashes during their
first month in office as President Trump, and that ICE agents had conducted a “raid” at an elementary school,
and Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., is “anti-vaccine” and President Trump “took
down” President Obama’s portrait in the White House, and epstein introduced Trump to Melenia, and Vice President
Vance “disparaged Elon Musk in private”, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth requested nearly $140,000 in
“upgrades” to his government residence, and President Trump was alone in wearing a blue suit to the funeral of
Pope Francis, an American citizen was detained by authorities after he informed them he was, in fact, a citizen,
and DOGE operatives attempted to gain access to secure spaces, and Harris would be among the most qualified
presidents in recent U.S. history, diddy will be pardoned by Trump, and thomas crooks was a Republican....

@sunsporter1649 I think there is one thing we can agree on 100%.... Americans like you deserve Trump and everything that goes with him...Happy New Year!😷
