Trump Says U.S. Is Going to Get Greenland 'One Way Or The Other

The leaders of Denmark and Greenland expressed concern
following Trump’s announcement, emphasizing in a joint statement
that another country cannot be annexed.

He really is arrogant, and totally lacking any sense of diplomacy.

It would serve him right if Greenland and Denmark declare Landry persona non grata.

In his first go at running the USA, President Trump was both telling the world he wants Greenland, and calling climate change a lie.

I thought it odd at first, then spotted the obvious link I don't recall anyone else mentioning.

The USA can NOT simply "annexe" Greenland or any other country, Denmark does not wish its autonomous province to be American, and so far at least, nor do the Greenlanders. They are happy to be allies with the USA, but not its subjects within a US State.

Russia and China are sniffing around the Arctic too, also for their own interests. America's official attitude towards Russia is ambiguous to say the least, but seems to regard China as more an economic rival than a military threat.

@ArishMell the turn of the century was ..The "Banana Wars" refer to U.S. military interventions in Latin America (1898-1934) to protect American economic interests, especially powerful fruit companies like the United Fruit Company (now
Chiquita), leading to occupations in Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, Honduras, etc., under "Big Stick Diplomacy" to ensure stability for trade, shaping regional politics and leaving lasting resentment, while "banana wars" also describe a later EU-US trade dispute over banana tariffs

@markinkansas All comes down to money, really, doesn't it?
@ArishMell it's true, the USA hasn't changed its policy of being in charge everywhere.

Oh really, I thought it was because Greenland was ruled by a communist dictator who is sending drug boats full of illegal Greenlanders to form gangs in American cities. 😒

Trump is just straight up saying "we want your resources" and still people deny it...

Necessary for America’s defence against China and Russia, as they hover the Arctic.

Europe is too dosy to defend itself.
Putin has designs on the Balkans. Not necessarily invasion.

The world order is unstable.
@peterlee how does that differ? As a long excluded, hated enemy, a true two countries European and American person, maybe you can't believe I am and must deny I exist, but I know there's no light between USA and EU.
Not in politics.
markinkansas · 61-69, M
@peterlee surviving and having quality of life is sometimes two different things..
peterlee · M
@markinkansas Agree.

It probably is just for the rare earth but maybe Trump is doing it just for the halibut.
All kidding aside – Trump saying the US will get Greenland one way or the other – is scary.
Cheers!
@Nanoose sure is, because there's nothing American people plan to do about it. Nothing. They're all, all good with it except a small minority of hated "enemies within".
The good thing for Greenland is that Landry isn't really the guy you'd pick if you want to get something accomplished.

He's pretty good at making enemies though and screwing things up.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I figured out his problem. He's still thinking like a corporate CEO, thinking he can merge with other companies. That might work in corporate America, but it doesn't work in global politics.
markinkansas · 61-69, M
@LordShadowfire well then he should put the USA into bankruptcy and our debt is solved.. he did it several times for himself ..
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@markinkansas I really do wish it would work that way.
Americans

Russia wants to conquer the world!

Also America

We want, Canada, Greenland, Panama, the parts of Mexico we like, Venezuela, the parts of Syria and Iraq with oil fields, the South China Sea, Kosovo, Diego Garcia, Cuba, Iranian oil fields.........Russian assets, Ukrainian farmland and mineral rights.......etc.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow everything they accuse China and Russia of doing or desiring is something they desire and do.
It's not like people know you're not supposed to pillage, plunder, colonize and rule the globe. So, they're voting for that.

The US has used up all the good will it had from the Marshal plan starting with its war in Korea. Each succeeding President has started another war and with each war a lessening of the good will the US used to enjoy. Sadly many if not most Americans are oblivious to their falling stature in the world and so they continue to be the jerks of the world even as China defeats them without firing a shot.
markinkansas · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 where did you read into that
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@markinkansas My post was about the US choosing a path toward peace instead of putting its nose into other nation's business. The US not starting any more needlessly stupid deadly wars. The US stop being Israel's guardian angel lap dog. Instead the US stay home and put its money into paying off its debts and starting to rebuild its infrastructure and making freedom possible again.
markinkansas · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 ok several parts there the usa is not choosing peace when i see it become a lap dog with putain and tell the ukraine you have to give up your land to russia .. that is not peace it is enabling a mad man to do what he wants. and i mean putan . now for the next part

the usa is the largest supplier to Israel by far . we allow that genocide to go on . every time the united nations want to stop it . the usa veto's it .. and now for the last one

the usa need to set a flat tax rate on all money earned and stop giving so many tax breaks to large or rich corporation .. or rich people .. thanks i was bored today

so i am a sanders fan.. not right or left .. [media=https://youtu.be/SkBRHl9oF_0]

...it's all about distracting attention AWAY from the Epstein files again.

Notice the two goons sitting behind Trump laughing like two drunks who'd crashed a woman's bridal shower before the female bouncer kicked them both in the balls, which of course MAGA Republicans don't really have, but the gesture being so poignant and well-received by all in attendance nonetheless.

@Diotrephes The United Nations Security Council veto power is the power of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) to veto any decision other than a "procedural" decision. the United States has used it 89 times (51 times to protect Israel) on the war on gaza
