The thing is, the more that the government "gives" you (i.e. takes your money in taxes and spends it on what the government decides you can have), the less free you are to make your own choices.
Many Americans prefer to decide for ourselves how our money is spent. It is a different point of view than is common in many other counties. It is an American thing. Most non-Americans (and more than a few young Americans) just don't get it.

It is a fallacy that poor people do not have any access to Medical Care in America
We have something called Medicaid that most poor people can have access to.
It not only covers doctors and medical care it also covers optical and dental.
We have a Medicare program for older folks.
Otherwise, money is taken out of a workers paycheck in order to pay for private insurance, which pays for some copays on medicines and doctor's visits.
We don't have the long wait times that so many other countries have for emergency care like waiting 6 hours for an ambulance or 8 hours in the emergency room to be seen.
We can seek out a specialist as long as they take the insurance that we carry without doctor approval as long as we have an established medical condition.
That might possibly vary from state to state?
We do have a bit of a wait time for specialist, but it's usually only 2 to 3 months.

@Justmeraeagain Good -- the system is working for you. But millions of Americans don't qualify for Medicaid or Medicare and have to buy their own insurance or do without. Example, our son has to pay $50.00 co-pay every time he sees the heart specialist because he works two jobs and that's the best insurance he gets.

I do agree that private insurance is not very good

@Justmeraeagain All depends on what you can afford. If the GOP has it's way, prices will be rising soon.

Because our medical system doesn't make you wait a year to get care for life threatening medical issues. Ask the Canadian near death why they crossed the border just to save their own life.

Simple. Americans believe the moral approach is to enrich the wealthy first and if they decide to give them basic battlefield medicine as a gift than so be it. Or more specifically their leaders do.
It is ideology first, care is a distant second.
Something that was on the news here awhile back. A new treatment for sickle cell disease originally developed in the US is being trialed in Canada because nobody in the US could afford it because of the for profit system. So they didn't even bother.

Some of that is true. You far left goose steppers enrich billionaires like George Soros, Nazi Pelosi, Moscow Bernie, hoping they'll trickle down some government money for your "DEY FOOD STAMP," which our grandchildren will have to pay for.
Meanwhile SELF MADE BILLIONAIRES like Donald Trump actually are making the country better, by taking control AWAY from the same DemoNazis whose inflation made everything so expensive in the first place.

My favorite question to ask people who are obsessed with maintaining America’s economic superiority is “what do you think we should do with all that money?”
I never get an actual answer
Usually just the military or whatever to “protect our freedoms”
Despite us really really not being very free but whatever

@EBSVC You have to wonder why people like musk, gates, Buffet, or Bezos really need more than 100 billion dollars. That is more than 1,000 people could manage to spend in a lifetime.
And with "protecting our freedoms", it is not like there is some imminent threat just waiting to take over America.

Or belong to a country where you have to pay twice to get on-time medical treatment and have a valid survival rate. Despite the initial compulsory payment funding a healthcare system that is far from the cheapest in Europe
justbob · 61-69, M
Yep. Different mindset entirely. You guys just don't get it.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@justbob I get it Bob... I don't think you are coherent though. But maybe one day, when you get it... you can answer my question. And also explain why you are supporting a political party that cheers on the idea of "meritocracy" while also actively trying to destroy the equal playing field that can only be substained by taxation.
My guess is Bob, you never really thought much about any of these big ideas, you just repeat the slogans.

Because it’s all spent on the military industrial complex and Israel, America has over 800 military bases around the world, just in case, they fancy a war with someone nearby, $ 1 trillion budget for the military industrial complex, imagine if they didn’t have wars, where would they store all the bombs and bullets, imagine if you had a company manufacturing bricks, and nothing was ever built, so they could use the bricks, what would happen to that company ?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Because our rich guys are richer than your rich guys? Because we pull up to free food giveaways driving 2025 SUVs?
Who is claiming we are the richest in the world?

@Northwest I did not pay any attention to the name on the post, the names are all made up on here and don't much matter. You defended the O.P. so strongly I though it must have been yours.
But anyway you also failed at reading when you said
The US is $38 trillion in debt. You should update your info. We can only afford universal healthcare, if we slash the military budget by half, if we don't add more taxes.
I admitted that additional tax revenue would be required
And actually, no I am not sold on all of Trump's agenda. There are parts of it that do make sense but a lot of people, like you, have some kind of knee jerk reaction that says anything Trump says is wrong. A blind, mindless assumption.
Besides all of which, I do not recall Trump saying much about the notion of government run healthcare. He just talks about scaling back Obamacare to make it a smaller budget item. This is not a "Trumpy" issue at all.

Or anything else for that matter. Learn how to read.
Hmmm. Wow! your wisdom is mind blowing. Yes, we all use Avatars, and we all made them up. The fact that you're trying to blame your inability to comprehend on this, is, well, further proof you lack the comprehension gene.
Seriously dude. I'm sold. You've already proved you lack the comprehension gene. You don't need to over sell it.
You really need to learn how to read bro.
I said:
You did not say a single thing about the military.
One more Trump speaking point. Every single Trump related post is related to something Trump actually does that threatens our democracy and our very way of life.
You can demonstrate you're not a MAGA, led by the nose, by NOT repeating the Trump talking points, such as claiming that posting about his MAGA and Project 2025 actions, are TDS. Grow a brain.
As a matter of fact, Trump has been saying, for nearly 10 years, that Obamacare is a disaster, and he has a plan to replace with something awesome. In two weeks. Going on 10 years.
The fact that you're not aware of this is another demonstration of your lack of comprehension, or how well you pay attention.
