lets go to Mars !

My fellow Americans,

Let me say this once, and let me say it plainly. If we are to rise above the divisions of race, of creed, of religion — if we are to transcend the lines that keep us apart — then there is no limit to how far we can go. We can reach not only for the sun, my friends, but for the very frontier of human possibility.

And so you may ask: What is the next step for civilization? Where do we go from here? My friends, the answer is Mars.

We should go to Mars — not out of pride, not in a spirit of superiority, nor simply because we believe we can. We should go because it is hard. Because great nations, and great peoples, are defined by the challenges they accept. Because the human race must forever test its courage, its ingenuity, and its unity by undertaking the difficult and the impossible.

We must evolve as a species, recognizing that our destiny lies not in the comfort of familiar shores, but in the bold pursuit of new and challenging horizons.

Once, not so long ago, humanity set foot upon the Moon — a triumph made possible in part by the vision of President Kennedy. And if we could reach the Moon then, with the tools and dreams of an earlier age, then surely we can reach Mars now.

Let us go forward, together, to that new world.

God bless you, and God bless America.

I'm all for a Mars mission. But not because it is difficult.

But because of the human trait of curiosity and exploration and for a potential way (i.e. settlements) for humankind to survive if we destroy ourselves on Earth.

If we want to do something merely as a challenge then let's find a way to wipe out hunger on this planet.

@beckyromero There is actually enough money and resources to do both. Collectively humans beings haven't able to work together toward reaching our potential. Greed and lust for power are at the top of the list of reasons we are not well on our way.

I agree.

One of my favourite speeches is JFK's speech about going to the moon. I encourage everyone to listen to it and reflect on how far the US has fallen.

@JimboSaturn

There's also an alternate JFK speech about going to the moon in the movie TimeQuest.

I think we are on our way, thanks to the new team in DC.

@nudistsueaz What is your way?
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@MoveAlong Rising above the divisions of race, of creed, of religion and the criminals that have been in DC.

People should stick to their kind and respect their biundaries instead of trying force people to live together.
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
@RisingMorningStar7 That's called anarchy. The force you speak of is called law.

Well, apparently there are more important tasks at hand like scaling back automobile mileage requirements for the express purpose of driving station wagons like in the 1970's, creating more (not less) pollution like through the increased use of coal like in the 1960's, and boldly (and some might say proudly) expressing racist sentiments like in the 1950's like defining an entire segment of people, "garbage."

@JimboSaturn And the saddest part is most of these people claim they are "pro-life" because they believe in the value of human life.

@Northwest We can only hope that they ALL go with him to Mars, then we prevent them from ever coming back! 🤪
