lets go to Mars !
My fellow Americans,
Let me say this once, and let me say it plainly. If we are to rise above the divisions of race, of creed, of religion — if we are to transcend the lines that keep us apart — then there is no limit to how far we can go. We can reach not only for the sun, my friends, but for the very frontier of human possibility.
And so you may ask: What is the next step for civilization? Where do we go from here? My friends, the answer is Mars.
We should go to Mars — not out of pride, not in a spirit of superiority, nor simply because we believe we can. We should go because it is hard. Because great nations, and great peoples, are defined by the challenges they accept. Because the human race must forever test its courage, its ingenuity, and its unity by undertaking the difficult and the impossible.
We must evolve as a species, recognizing that our destiny lies not in the comfort of familiar shores, but in the bold pursuit of new and challenging horizons.
Once, not so long ago, humanity set foot upon the Moon — a triumph made possible in part by the vision of President Kennedy. And if we could reach the Moon then, with the tools and dreams of an earlier age, then surely we can reach Mars now.
Let us go forward, together, to that new world.
God bless you, and God bless America.
