Trump Does NOT Have the Sole Power to Forever Bar Ukraine From Joining NATO.

NATO Treaty

Article 10

The Parties may, by unanimous agreement, invite any other European State in a position to further the principles of this Treaty and to contribute to the security of the North Atlantic area to accede to this Treaty. Any State so invited may become a Party to the Treaty by depositing its instrument of accession with the Government of the United States of America. The Government of the United States of America will inform each of the Parties of the deposit of each such instrument of accession.

Article 12

After the Treaty has been in force for ten years, or at any time thereafter, the Parties shall, if any of them so requests, consult together for the purpose of reviewing the Treaty, having regard for the factors then affecting peace and security in the North Atlantic area, including the development of universal as well as regional arrangements under the Charter of the United Nations for the maintenance of international peace and security.

He could block submission of a treaty vote in the Senate to favor Ukraine join NATO while he is president.

He could ask NATO as a body to review the NATO Treaty for a possible amendment regarding Ukraine while he is president.

But that's all.

Thankfully Trump doesn't have the sole power to forever bar Ukraine from joining NATO. But he does have the power to make it hard for Ukraine to keep fighting and force them to sign his peace agreement.

Here is a vid that might show how Trump would like to see Ukraine surrender and sign the papers. Cheers!

Unfortunately any treaty signed by Ukraine would bind them to that agreement. It doesn't matter if Trump is in office or not, if Ukraine agrees to anything. It doesn't matter even if the USA is apart of NATO or not either. If Ukraine agrees to anything.

Trump HAS threatened to pull out of NATO itself. That still wouldn't matter with Ukraine's agreement with Russia.

He could enact legislation to remove Article 10 and threaten US withdrawal if not agreed to.
Is that the Democrats's peace plan?

@Roundandroundwego

"Peace"? What is "peace"?
@beckyromero oh, we thought that was your party's plan. Lolz. We shall remember that about the USA! Bipartisan and no peace! And smug? Always!

@Roundandroundwego

To me, freedom is a more important moral than "peace."

Putting Trump completely aside why does anyone want Ukraine in NATO? Serious question. Seems so silly now that the original purpose of NATO is completely gone.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@beckyromero No the vote took place almost a decade before the war started. Then Russia negotiated a peace treaty to prevent any war. Europe and the US used them to more fully arm Ukraine.

@hippyjoe1955 There was no legal vote or referendum in 2014. The referendum that the Russian separatists tried organized was completely bogus. The reported outcome of 22M for and 550K against separation could not be verified.

@MoveAlong So says you. Others in the region completely disagree with you. I will go by what they said.
