Nobody joins a cult willingly. "The base" thinks they joined a great movement.

Marjorie Taylor-Greene has just learned she was in a cult.

But, to her credit, she left it alive without anyone's help.

There's hope that Lauren Boebert might be next.

What's Susan Collins' excuse for supporting the leader of the cult?

@beckyromero Greene is an opportunist at heart... like Pedophile Defender Cry-Baby-trump. It certainly is easy and comfortable to think she has turned a corner and who doesn't love (L-O-V-E) a redemption story. At the same time, it's hard to believe the person who sided with the January insurrectionists and ran to their sides to bring them aid and comfort before they were pardoned, an act she championed, who was instrumental in getting a pardon for George Santos, who cheers the ICE "slave" raids going on, who was perfectly fine with the maga death threats to others before she started to get them, obnoxiously heckled Joe Biden at his State of the Union speech, and claimed George Soros and the Jews were complicit in the California fires is now credit worthy. I don't believe she is.

Maga has always been a "real thing" to "the base" only (ONLY). Like the wall that Mexico was going to pay for, it's a tool to manipulate those simple-minded souls. Greene sees the opportunity door opening the way Warren Buffet sees the next stock investment payoff before anyone else does. Playing the "momma bear" for disaffected Republicans in search of someone who seems reasonable is the role of a lifetime. And that lane is wide-open right now. As a way to preemptively knock J D Vance off his perch, that's also icing on the cake. Don't be fooled, she's still a maga-nut and her self-serving performance now because she is getting a taste of the victimization she promoted shouldn't be a cause to lower your guard. She may be a woman scorned, but she's also calculating a new lane for manipulation and she's resigning Congress only AFTER she becomes pension eligible. It's easy to say she got a taste of her own medicine and is now reformed. The reality is she's not resigning from maga. As Mike Johnson is fond of saying (when it is convenient), redemption is always possible. That is true, bu based on human behaviour, redemption doesn't just happen in the space of a single online YouTube video, despite the theatrics and performative drama leading up to those theatrics.

There is nothing in her speeches, body language, or emotional output to indicate she has come to her senses as opposed to looking after her own self-interests. Like Pedophile Defender Cry-Baby-trump who is embracing Zohran Mandami after meeting him for himself instead of feeding off the venom administered to him by Stephen Miller, Steven Bannon, etc., he is still as rotten as he has always been. There are lots of side-by-side comparisons of what he said about Mandami before meeting him and that one sit-down meeting he had that go well beyond policy differences and politics. Comparing the two, they don't measure up to a genuine redemption story. It's the same with Greene.

Both Greene and Cry-Baby-trump are still after power and attention any way they can get it. Yes, let's rejoice Greene seems sensible in acknowledging there is something wrong with protecting pedophiles whoever they are and that Cry-Baby-trump seemed presidential (sitting down) while meeting the mayor-elect of New York City. Both are shocking, refreshing, and seem relieving for their normalcy. But that doesn't make either one of them role models, not even for Susan Collins.

@MarkPaul

I suppose only time will tell. But I welcome this development just the same.

As for Collins, it's too bad Olympia Snowe didn't remain in the Senate instead.

@beckyromero All things being equal, I think Marjorie Taylor-Greene is more of a threat now than before. Still, despite her joy when others were getting death threats, I feel sorry for her in how fast "the diehard base" turned on her for supporting getting the Epstein Files released. It reminds me of those newer immigrants who voted for Pedophile Defender Cry-Baby-trump and were convinced they would be exempt from ICE raids... until they weren't. Or, the farmers who thought Daddy Pedophile Defender Cry-Baby-trump would protect them until he decided it was more in his self-interests to protect Argentina farmers. Or, rural voters who forgot they actually use rural hospitals, Medicaid, and SNAP.

@MarkPaul Thank you for this reasoned discourse - unfortunately rare here.

@newjaninev2 Oh, our pleasure.
