About The Extra 10% Tariff On Canada

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he plans to hike tariffs on imports of Canadian goods by an extra 10% because of an anti-tariff television ad aired by the province of Ontario.

The ad used the words of former President Ronald Reagan to criticize U.S. tariffs, angering Trump who said he would end trade talks with Canada. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he would pull the ad after the weekend, and it ran Friday night during the first game of the World Series.

“Their Advertisement was to be taken down, IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run last night during the World Series, knowing that it was a FRAUD,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform as he flew aboard Air Force One to Malaysia.

“Because of their serious misrepresentation of the facts, and hostile act, I am increasing the Tariff on Canada by 10% over and above what they are paying now.”

It was unclear what legal authority Trump would use to impose the additional import taxes. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on when the 10% hike would come into effect, and whether it would apply to all Canadian goods.

I kissed a Mexican watermelon and I liked it!

About 6 months ago I stopped buying US products.
At that time I was a little worried that there would be things I would have to do without and I would be paying a lot more for my food. But it worked out that I can still buy any food I want at a reasonable price.
I figure this new 10% tariff increase will show the rest of the world that it is not a good Idea to try and negotiate with Trump - so just find new trading partners like Canada did and all will be well.
Cheers!

I don't know anyone who buys anything made in the USA anymore, myself included. Every single thing on Canadian store shelves that has a label "Made in the USA or Assembled in the USA or Partially Processed in the USA" is left sitting on the shelf, from my observations. Anything made or assembled or processed anywhere else in the world does not have a tariff associated with its price.

You've probably noticed that major food chain stores in Canada have red labels on their shelves denoting a 100% Canadian product, or a Black Triangle label denoting American items that have tariffs added to the shelf price.

The purpose of this is to make it easier for Canadians to "Buy Canadian" and avoid purchasing ALL American products, or to simply avoid paying tariffs.

I even researched automobiles and pickup trucks.

If ANY car in Canada was partially or fully assembled in the USA before being imported into Canada, there is a 25% tariff ADDED to the price of the vehicle which Canadians pay when buying a brand new vehicle from a Dealership.

The only vehicles in Canada that are tariff-free are those that are physically manufactured and assembled 100% on Canadian soil, such as Toyota and Honda as two prime examples.

Anything that has a GM, Ford or Stellantis label (Jeep), will otherwise attract a 25% tariff added to the MSRP when you buy it new, which is the pre-HST price. When you pay the HST (sales tax) you are paying 13% tax on the 25% tariff as well.

Thought I would add a Canadian made vid about trade. Cheers!

The world is very well aware that Trump is a stable character, but no one around the world, Canada included can dismiss him.

He is, unfortunately, the USA. Our electoral system put a guy who did not get more than 50% of the votes in charge.

Canada, Europe, China and India, are trying to find alternate export markets, but at some point, they will have to deal with the existing situation: the US is the largest single market in the world.

I think it's on the leadership of all these countries, for failing to predict a Trump, but in the meanwhile, they have to kiss his ass.

@swirlie summer growing season is over . Where do you get your fruits and vegetables from again during non summer months ? If Orange does that your fruit and veggie prices will go up.
@swirlie I live in California, and I go out of my way to avoid US products if not made in California.

@swirlie You're free to post, not insult. Fact, you can only post if you can prove your allegations, starting with you producing references of your claims of what Carney said.
