LA City Council Honored Illegal Immigrant Who Later Rammed Federal Vehicles During Arrest
An illegal immigrant accused of ramming federal vehicles in Los Angeles was given an award by the city council just a few months prior.
44-year-old Carlitos Ricardo Parias, a Mexican national, currently faces charges of assaulting a federal officer following the incident, which occurred during an attempted traffic stop. Parias allegedly rammed his Toyota Camry into law enforcement vehicles after he was boxed in and refused to ignore commands from law enforcement.
Parias [had] previously been given an award by the city council for his online exposure of ICE raids.
Just a few months after being lauded by the city, this celebrated ‘pillar of the community,’ as LA City Councilman Curren Price called him, didn’t wait long to show his true colors. When federal agents finally caught up with him to serve an outstanding immigration warrant, Parias didn’t go quietly. He allegedly used his car as a weapon, ramming it forward and backward into law enforcement vehicles in a violent bid to escape.
The scene was pure chaos. According to reports, Parias’s desperate maneuvers caused “large plumes of smoke” to fill the air as his tires shredded, flinging debris that struck the agents. Forget ‘fearless citizen journalist.’ This was a dangerous felon-in-the-making, and our agents were the target. As Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli later stated, “A vehicle is a deadly weapon.” The confrontation only ended when an agent was forced to open fire, wounding Parias.
