That's not true. There are administrative and quality control positions. Humans still oversee any automation. There is maintenance for not just robotics, but the machine tooling needed to facilitate the task. Also bulk material supply, shipping and receiving, and of course IT systems. Don't forget about inside and/or outside sales. Order processing, invoicing, collections, customer service and help desk. Who maintains the facility and grounds including the parking lot? How about janitorial? Eventually upgrades to the facility need to be handled. And of course, someone designed and built the building, performed the sitework, supplied the furniture, etc.
Yeah, I know it was fun to simplify. But life isn't all that simple. Would you prefer no factory jobs?

Factory jobs will be the first to go.. Agriculture will last a bit longer, because plants stubbornly refuse to conform to machine efficiency standards. Next, somewhat surprisingly will be computer and program design.. Perfect targets for AI to excel. And accountancy? Forget it.. The spreadsheets of tomorrow will outperform you in every way and not need indemnity insurance..
Now what I would love to see is an AI judge....😷

@MoveAlong The people who call loudest for mining or manufacturing jobs are generally those who have never worked in a mine or factory.

sounds more like a poor work ethnic in whatever place you all are in to me. Factory jobs are sought after here, and many prefer having steady, routine work at a fixed location. Some people still have pride in their work/craftsmanship, something that's sorely lacking across the country.
and yes, I've worked factories before (Martin Marietta, Gates Rubber, Southern Devices/Leviton, American Emergency Vehicles, etc.); not my cup of tea personally, but I have nothing against them and think we need more of them...

@wildbill83 There were factories and there were workshops. If you had a good experience good for you.
You don't know anything about their work ethic. As a whole they were ho different than anyone else from any other part of the country. But there were difference in how factories were run.

Also unions are an endangered species in the US so any factories that do use people are going to be human rights violation factories too.

Hopes and prayers.
Building things is not your thing!
Hopes. Prayers.
You won't even talk about building one factory. Zero farms, too!
