Everyone is hoping for more “factory jobs” in America

Be careful what you ask for, modern factories no longer use much labor. Robots do all the work, humans just maintain the robots.

That's not true. There are administrative and quality control positions. Humans still oversee any automation. There is maintenance for not just robotics, but the machine tooling needed to facilitate the task. Also bulk material supply, shipping and receiving, and of course IT systems. Don't forget about inside and/or outside sales. Order processing, invoicing, collections, customer service and help desk. Who maintains the facility and grounds including the parking lot? How about janitorial? Eventually upgrades to the facility need to be handled. And of course, someone designed and built the building, performed the sitework, supplied the furniture, etc.

Yeah, I know it was fun to simplify. But life isn't all that simple. Would you prefer no factory jobs?
