GOP Rep. Pushes To Boot Ilhan Omar Off Committees After Tirade Against Charlie Kirk
Reports over the past few days have noted, pointedly, that U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., launched a “vulgar and unapologetic tirade” against Charlie Kirk, who was gunned down by a known leftist has he held a free speech event at a Utah college.
She “openly mocked tributes” to the Turning Point USA co-founder, using offensive language to describe Kirk’s fans.
In fact, the IJR reported she sneered after the death of the 31-year-old, “There are a lot of people who are talking about him [Kirk] just wanting to have a civil debate. These people are full of s*** and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness.”
Her decision to lash out at the high-profile conservative leader prompted criticism.
And now, perhaps, punishment.
A report at Fox News explains that one House Republican now is demanding that Omar be removed from her House committee assignments.
U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., said he is introducing a resolution to remove Omar from the House Budget Committee and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
The report said Omar already has been getting backlash over her interview in which she blasted Kirk’s opinions.
She claimed Kirk “downplayed slavery and what black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth shouldn’t exist.”
She later tried to backtrack, going to social media with her claim, “While I disagreed with Charlie Kirk vehemently about his rhetoric, my heart breaks for his wife and children. I don’t wish violence on anyone. My faith teaches me the power of peace, empathy, and compassion.”
