Like Mao or Stalin? Idk. I think you'd need a better criteria for leadership besides their religious preference
@TinyViolins Naah. They both believed in a religion called "Marxism" AKA the opiate of the intellectuals!!

Kwek00 · 41-45, M
Not necessarily... no.
As long as religious people can reason in a secular fashion AND understand that their legeslation isn't there to appease their personal god but has to apply to everyone... I don't have an issue with it. Just respect the seperation between church and state.

Then there is also the idea of atheists being better when they are in charge... I don't think atheism excludes tendencies of bad leadership.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@LegendofPeza Well, I answered it in a serious way anyway.
Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@LegendofPeza And what happened to Charlie, and why?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Therealsteve He got shot... we don't know why.

No one's stopping them from rising up the ranks within charities and private services. However, many atheists I know just want to get by on the bare minimum work, sacrifice, and thought, chasing instant mindless gratification.

Hmm, perhaps these might be universal traits..?
Like China, I don’t know. ask them,

No just the most competent.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Oh I don't know.

Judging by some of the &%@#£ that gets posted online and in newspapers these days I'm pretty sure the 'radical' atheists would happily go to war with the 'moderate' atheist if they disagreed
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Picklebobble2 An atheist has no gods. How can someone 'moderately' have no gods while another 'radically' has no gods?

There are no shades of atheism.

Either you have gods or you do not have gods.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@newjaninev2 it's not about 'Gods' or the 'beliefs' it's about the very definition of the word and what that may mean to different people
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Picklebobble2 From the Greek atheos (ἄθεος), = no gods

I don't see how that could mean different things to different people... it seems clear and straightforward

Just as one cannot be 'a little bit pregnant' one is either without gods or one is not.

In fact, 'atheism' is a term that should not even exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a 'non-astrologer' or a 'non-alchemist'. We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs.

As long as "good" morals are tied up as a hostage with religion, that will never happen.
It would be good if religion was once and for all put away in the Fantasy genre, as well as the Department of War.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
seems like it worked out pretty well for Germany in the 1930s

and Russa, China, and North Korea these days.

yup sure...why not
