But, you see, that's the thing.
They chose to do that back in 2016 (and converted others).
The percentage that will regret their decision is small; the percentage that will publicly admit that to others even smaller.
Many Germans well into the 1950s and 1960s were stilll loyal to Hitler and Nazism, thought that people like Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and Count Claus von Stauffenberg were traitors instead of patriots and wanted Nazi war criminals released from their sentences early.

There have always been and still are American Nazis and fascists and their sympathizers. (in the 1800s they were called "Confederates").
