British liberals

Some of my liberal minded friends have turned to the right of centre in the past month or so .
It’s all about ‘ illegal ‘ immigration’.
If government don’t sort it , I fear for the future of the UK

If the government does sort it and people find they are materially no better off than before and that the populists have sold them a pipedream, then it will be all about "single mothers", "benefit scroungers" or whatever other unpopular minority group finds itself in the crosshairs.

Scapegoating is morally corrosive.

@SunshineGirl I woke up to reports of police and council workers spending time. taking down offensive banners hung over Road bridges , flags flying all over lamp posts and businesses. I have never witnessed this before and it concerns me.

@devonman You can do what you like on your own property, but it is not fair to stake out territory on public property or drag public servants into political conflict.

The St George cross makes me nervous because far right have monopolised it for msny decades. This is sad, but unavoidable.

@SunshineGirl They managed to hoodwink them over Brexit, it's been of little to no benefit to ordinary people, but they're STILL listening to the same voices. 🫤

@FreddieUK It is deeply worrying that people have such short memories. Farage et al should be politically radioactive by now.

@SunshineGirl Isn't that what people like us thought about the Trump situation in the States. I don't believe the whole of that great country swallowed the nonsense, but enough people were silent/complicit in it to get to where they are today. Unlike the US, we need a humane, coherent, convincing polotical opposition to the vile comments from Badenock, Philps and Farage.
