GOP's Texas map has Austin residents sharing district with rural Texans 300 miles away.

This is why I have absolutely no problem with creating new districts pin wheel style centered from Chicago..

Make Illinois 17-0 Democratic!

Same with New York. Stretch districts from city and Buffalo and meet in the middle.

If Texas goes through with it they leave the Democrats with no choice. California, NY and Illinois already have plans in the works. Every state that legally can will follow.

@MoveAlong LOL, as if those States have not already squeezed the last bit of gerrymanding juice out of their States

@sunsporter1649 I assure you they have not done as much as they can do. Why else would Newsom, Hochul and Pritzker be talking about what they can do to offset Texas's plans? Especially Newsom. The California map is now drawn up by an independent commission. Newsom is talking about holding a special election in November to put it in the hands of the Legislature. It will pass.

@MoveAlong LOL, out of 52 seats, 9 are Republican. Seems kinda lopsided when 38% of the people voted for Donald Trump, eh?
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
@sunsporter1649 There will be fewer than 9 if Texas does what they are planning.

@MoveAlong Those were the California numbers
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
@sunsporter1649 I know. Again there will be fewer than 9 in Cal. Cal can stretch LA. SF, San Hose, San Diego and their Metropolitan areas a long long way And the districts don't even have to touch.

@sunsporter1649 doesn't get it. He's complaining that " out of 52 seats, 9 are Republican. Seems kinda lopsided when 38% of the people voted for Donald Trump, eh?"

And what's with the "eh"? That's a very CANADIAN sounding attitude!

Maybe @sunsporter1649 isn't even a native-born American citizen and is really a closet Canadian snowbird!

Anyway, back to redistricting.

Texas has 38 House seats; Republicans outnumber Democrats, 25-12 (there's one vacancy).

Yet, Vice President Kamala Harris won 42.46% of the vote. That would be the equivalant of 16 House seats.

Florida has 28 House seats' Rep Republicans outnumber Democrats, 20-8.

Yet, Vice President Kamala Harris won 42.99% of the vote there. That would be the equivalant of 12 House seats.

Those states' legislatures are also lopisided.

Texas:
Senate 20-11 Republicans (by Harris' % of the vote, Democrats should have 13 seats)
House 88-62 Democrats (by Harris' % of the vote, Democrats should have 64 seats)

Florida:
Senate 27-10-1 Republicans, with one vacancy (by Harris' % of the vote, Democrats should have 13 seats)
House 87-32 Republicans, with one vacancy (by Harris' % of the vote, Democrats should have 52 seats)
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@beckyromero Shall we compare that with Illinois and Massachusetts?
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
@sunsporter1649 Sure, go ahead. I'll listen.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@MoveAlong

Massachusetts 9 seats 0 Republican 36.02% voted Republican

Illinois 17 seats 14 democrat 3 Republican 43.47% voted Republican
