Jackson Hewitt Employee Coaches Illegal Immigrants on Obtaining Tax Returns Regardless of Employment Status
A Jackson Hewitt employee was recently recorded explaining to illegal immigrants in New York City how they could receive tax refunds of up to $14,000–regardless of employment status–as tax season approaches.
The incident occurred outside the Roosevelt Hotel, which has served as a migrant shelter and processing center.
Turning Point USA contributor Savanah Hernandez was reporting at the location when she discovered Jackson Hewitt representatives distributing promotional materials to migrants staying at the facility.
The flyers, according to Hernandez, were printed in Spanish and boldly stated: “Working or not, file your taxes and we can get the maximum refund for your family.”
The materials specifically mentioned that individuals with three children could potentially receive over $14,000 in refunds.
When Hernandez identified herself as a journalist, the employee reportedly took back the flyer that had been handed to her. However, when directly questioned about whether the company was helping migrants obtain tax refunds, one employee confirmed with a straightforward “Yes.”
Another employee added that they provide similar services at “all the shelters” throughout the city.
