10 years from now the world will be more right leaning than left leaning. i know that much. what i don't know is what such a world would look like.

what do you reckon?

in the year 2014 I was arguing for left-leaning ideologies. enter 2024, and the world I wished for was here—and it's nothing like what I imagined.

now, I'm right-leaning, and if my personal experience is anything to go by, in the year 2034, right-wing ideologies will be the dominant ideology. but what would such a world look like... would it also be nothing like what I would imagine 🤔

Sorry to interrupt, but the world exists outside the USA. There are millions of people who have no clue of what left and right means in the USA or so called Western world because they have completely different culture, history, mentality, politics and internal problems within their country or region.

@CrazyMusicLover i was using the terms loosely

matter fact I don't even really know what they mean, just the essence of what they mean
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@thrash I might be mistaking it with socialism/capitalism but it looks like it goes hand in hand.

From what I understand, left-oriented should mean giving more power to the state which then should accomodate those who are considered more vulnerable through people's taxes. It should mean that those who are the strongest should also work for the benefit of the weak, handicapped etc.
Example: laws benefit poor people, old people, new mothers..all those who have decreased ability to work or find work. And that means higher taxes for those who work and especially those who earn a lot of money.

Right-wing means more that it's a dog eats dog world. It benefits private companies, demands less control of the state and more power to the private sector. The philosophy is that every individual should be awarded according to his or her abilities, the strongest and smartest should be able to benefit themselves and it's up to them if they decide to help the disadvantaged ones, the laws can't make them.

@thrash MAGA cultists also don’t know what either word means but continue to label other people who have different opinions that they disagree with as being left wing nut jobs or Marxist or Nazis yet MAGA cultists don’t actually know what those words refer to.

Are you a MAGA cultist and Trump worshiper?

@justanothername oh, please. lefties throw names around more than anyone else. because it's all they got—words.

and, for the record, my understanding of the words wasn't even wrong—i just didn't know if they were american-politics-only words or not.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@justanothername There are uneducated and self-interested people acting on emotion on both sides. They are a good biomass for populists of any kind.

I hate those who interchange liberal and progressive the most. Those are different things. Also liberal and leftist. Bi** please, I voted for a liberal right-wing party in past.

They're loosely defined terms that change with the time and country you use them in. It can refer to that, or just the economic axis (socialism v. capitalism), social axis (progressive v. conservative), or even the international axis (anti-NATO v. pro-NATO).

Ultimately they just cause more confusion than solve, even though we're all guilty of using them.

You could say Fico is "leftwing" purely from his international alignment (actually it's quite a blasphemy if you do, but technically you could 😅) even if in practice he's the embodiment of all the characteristics that define what are commonly referred to as "alt-right" parties
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Elessar Fico presents himself as a conservative leftist and he also throws a coin here and there if he believes it will bring him more votes. His voting base are old and poor people with conservative leaning. Old people at least have an objective reason to vote for him because he truly favours them by increasing retirement pensions. But in reality he's a perfect example of a kleptocrat who figured out that taxing citizens and especially businesses is a good money laundry machine to enrich himself.

@CrazyMusicLover What is a liberal right wing party?

(This has gotta be good.)

LIberalism before the Port Huron Statement (in 1962) was defined as Laissez Faire free market capitalism, with very little government interference. Those folks in the Sixties were called Classical Liberals. In the late 80s, they were callled libertarians.

The terms change with time.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Reason10 A party that promises free-market, support of businesses and less interference of the state regulations in certain areas but also supports and defends the rights of women, minorities such as LGBTI, same-sex marriage and drug liberation.
They were defined as centre-right, more precisely.

@CrazyMusicLover True enough ,but have you noticed that the majority of the people in those cultures two one of two things, and frequently both at the same time:A) Go on about how terrible Western culture , particularly the U.S is B)Risk life and limb trying to get into a country that has Western culture, particular the U.S.🙄

@Reason10 German CDU, Forza Italia, Italia Viva, Macron's party (whatever is the name I don't remember), American Democrats, Starmers' Labour, Australian Labour, Canadian Liberals just on top of my mind
@CrazyMusicLover the rest of the world is to the left of the USA and it's aware. Who speaks for the global majority? Probably the UN minus the USA.
