The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), officially the U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization, is a temporary organization under the United States DOGE Service, formerly known as the United States Digital Service. Despite the name, DOGE is not a federal executive department, the creation of which would require the approval of the U.S. Congress.

Apparently it is a complete rebranding and reorganization of the United States Digital service, a department created by Obama for modernization of the healthcare.gov website. In other words, they swapped one for another because those are two entirely different missions with entirely different personnel with entirely different hierarchy within the executive branch. I am guessing it was done this way to gain some kind of legitimacy.
So now we have a department, created in an underhanded way, headed by a man who was appointed by the president, but never vetted or confirmed by another branch of government, who brings in his own people to work under him. And these folks have access to very sensitive information. I am surprised by the number of people, ESPECIALLY REPUBLICANS WHO TRADITIONALLY COMPLAIN ABOUT GOVERNMENT OVERREACH, that are okay with this.
