We have socialism in the U.S. alright - For corporations and billionaires. They get huge bail-outs, subsides, tax-breaks, they are allowed to stash their ill-gotten wealth in off-shore tax havens. that's the American system: socialism for the rich, unregulated capitalism for the rest of us.
P.S. Let's not forget the corrupt defense contractors who steal billions from the American tax-payer. Time after time the Pentagon has failed audits. Hundreds of billions are unaccounted for. Here's a tip: defense contractors stole that tax money!
@hippyjoe1955 I’ll tell you one thing MLK Jr. for sure achieved: in most parts of the US it’s no longer socially acceptable to be openly racist. If you are openly racist, and it’s rare that anyone even tries it, you will be shunned and looked down upon by most of your peers. In that environment it’s more difficult to harm others based on their race. If you want to safely be racist today you at least have to dress it up in more abstract, indirect language, talk about things like illegal immigration, backing the blue, cutting welfare, school choice, etc. As Lee Atwater infamously observed, you can’t just say, “N****r, n****r!” Anymore, that hurts you. No, racism is not entirely solved, but what I described above represents progress. That’s the good that MLK Jr. did, and may it survive the attempts to roll it back by demagogues like Trump.
No kidding. It's a calcified and dysfunctional empire, held in place by expensive lies and massive weapons. The values of today's moderate and conservative voters are evil, no question. Trying to gently move Western people away from fascism to a less harmful politics didn't work. Americans have prepared for war only and rule the world that way, crashing the checker board to the floor and punching their opponents who dare to try to win.
