And so it begins...

Washington: Denmark is in “crisis mode” after Donald Trump made a direct play for Greenland in a “horrendous” phone call with the country’s prime minister.

The US president spoke to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen for 45 minutes last week and made it clear he wanted to place Greenland under American control.
Trump then became “aggressive”, according to the newspaper, and threatened to impose tariffs on Denmark unless Greenland was sold to the US.

The call came after Trump refused to rule out using military force to take Greenland in a press conference on January 7, arguing that it was a matter of “national security” that the US gained an Arctic base.

The Danish company Novo Nordisk produces the world's leading weight loss drug, Wegovy. It is relied upon by millions of fat Americans who can't be arsed to do any exercise, including Elon Musk. The Danes also export loads of cheap bacon. The outcome of a tariff war war between America and Denmark would be fairly predictable 🐖🐖🐖

This is what is known in the trade as asymmetrical economics ⚖
@SunshineGirl Novo Nordisk also produces vast amounts of insulin that is exported to the US

@Adeptlinguist Yes, and it is already way too expensive for ordinary Americans who need it owing to their inefficient health markets.
@SunshineGirl Tariffs will be just what the doctor ordered.
@SunshineGirl Incidentally, in Sweden (and I think most European countries) insulin is free for insulin-dependent diabetics.

The idea of charging people for the right to stay alive seems barbaric to me.

@SunshineGirl

When did you become an expert on America and living here ?????

If you want to make a point and actually be listened to maybe knock off the insults and stick to what you know not what you feel

@Adeptlinguist I agree, I find the concept terrifying. These drugs in Europe cost a tenth of what they do in America and most health authorities are focused on how to make them available to everyone who needs them, rather than carving a profit

@pdockal Did I claim to be an expert in any field? I am however trained, and moderately interested, in applied economics. Hence my reaction to the post which covers the topics of international politics and trade, not "living in America" . .

@SunshineGirl

Your clueless to the plight of the American people and what we want and what we need so bugger off

@pdockal Ever thought of considering what other nations may want or need before you use bullying tactics? It's called diplomacy and is a tried and tested method of achieving outcomes acceptable to all without recourse to violence.
