And so it begins...

Washington: Denmark is in “crisis mode” after Donald Trump made a direct play for Greenland in a “horrendous” phone call with the country’s prime minister.

The US president spoke to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen for 45 minutes last week and made it clear he wanted to place Greenland under American control.
Trump then became “aggressive”, according to the newspaper, and threatened to impose tariffs on Denmark unless Greenland was sold to the US.

The call came after Trump refused to rule out using military force to take Greenland in a press conference on January 7, arguing that it was a matter of “national security” that the US gained an Arctic base.

@NativePortlander1970 i agree with you about a verified second source, as regards the London telegraphs political learning i have no knowledge.
And i have absolutely no issue with American factories making stuff again.... But i would point out that the factory owners are the ones that sent the jobs off shore

@Convivial The Telegraph is absolutely right wing and has supported every right wing Conservative party/government since 1945. They are as right wing as you can get.

@Richard65 msm is reporting it also...

@Convivial yes, I was clarifying that The Telegraph is indeed right wing, so would normally support the US Republican Party. I'm not questioning the veracity of your post.
@Convivial Because of Bill Clinton's NAFTA/GATT in the early mid 90's, which essentially eliminated tariffs and allowed American factory owners to send jobs to Mexico, Central America, and Asia, while permanently costing roughly 25 million jobs here in the US. I remember real numbers unemployment being under 3%, when getting laid off You could have another one within an hour, good paying jobs were everywhere, and the costs of goods and services, as well as housing and utilities, were affordable. My first apartment was $135 a month in 1988 when I was 18, 30 channel basic cable with HBO and Cinemax was only $25 a month.

@Richard65 no, i understand that, and i thank you for the further information....i was just saying that msm is also carrying the story
@Convivial Most msm is usually anti Trump establishment.

@NativePortlander1970 The SMH is owned by Rupert Murdoch and the Telegraph is pro conservative. It's at least trump agnostic.

Their is no good reason to doubt this story. Apart from the fact that you can and you want to.
@Burnley123 Except that Murdoch himself is anti Trump
Convivial · 26-30, F
@Burnley123 actually no.. The smh is not owned by murdoch

@NativePortlander1970 Yeah.....That Fox News channel he owns is always so hyper-critical. 🤣

Convivial · 26-30, F

@NativePortlander1970 Calling the Daily Telegraph "right leaning" is a bit like calling Genghis Khan a "mildly expansionist statesman". The group has been opened for decades by a succession of oligarchs who have suppressed any semblance of editorial independence in their undisguised efforts to turn the UK into the 51st state of America. The Financial Times is however a serious newspaper, so if the story was reported here you can trust it with reasonable confidence.

What, by the way, counts as "mainstream media" these days? Most people consume their news from social media platforms. Using the term as a perjorative no longer conveys the meaning or force I think you believe it to have.
