I’m curious if your opinions have changed any in the past two months? I think the negatives greatly outweigh any positives, but that’s just me. He’s already greatly offended or attacked many of our former allies, and I think this will serve to isolate us further from the rest of the world, with a handful of exceptions. They will certainly fear us, and I doubt any will feel any goodwill towards us, or want to help us when we need it in the future.

@RockerDad For me, the negatives were always bound to outweigh the positives because the single most important issue was on top of the probable negatives column.
@CedricH I agree. I think he had a great opportunity to calm fears in other countries, and instead has chosen to sow angst and chaos u necessarily
@RockerDad I’m also curious on your take on recent elections in your native Germany.

@RockerDad Some say his rhetoric and policy decisions are indicative of America‘s withdrawal from the world and the abandonment of global leadership… which would be calamitous enough on its own… However, it might be even worse. In fact, he is turning the US into a rogue superpower, aligning the nation implicitly with the anti-liberal axis of autocracy. So he‘s not leaving the field, he’s switching sides.
@CedricH I agree. I also found Musk’s involvement in far right German politics to be unsettling, and makes me wonder what his end game would be by getting publicly involved in that.

@RockerDad What should’ve been a consequential election was just another affirmation of a deeply flawed and inadequate status quo. Our electoral system and our constitution, however, aren’t primed to enable game changing elections. Even though that’s exactly what Germany, Europe and the free world need right about now.

@RockerDad the endgame would be a world filled with countries ruled by right-wing populists, aspiring to abandon enlightened values in favor of tribal, racial, patriarchal, religious and hierarchical social norms, imposed by an authoritarian and increasingly dictatorial state.
