Do you not know the results of the 1993 election?

Answer: "To meet the other Tory."

@beckyromero You‘re referring to Preston Manning?

Don't you know the results of the 1993 election?

PC's went from 156 seats in Parliament to 2.
CedricH · 22-25, M
@beckyromero Because of the stunning ascendency of the Reform Party, yes. At that point, the Red Tory faction had become a liability for the conservative movement.

@CedricH

The amount of additional seats the Liberals won was nearly twice that of the Reform Party won (52, mostly out west). They went from 81 to 177.

That election should be a warning to the U.S. Republican Party.

If never Trumpers get their act together.

@beckyromero Yes, so? The Liberals won the election but the Reform Party made the PC structurally uncompetitive henceforth.

We will see what happens in the mid-terms in 2026. But if the GOP takes a beating and loses the White House in 2028, the same thing could happen here if the never Trumpers get their act together and form a new conservative party based on the principles of pre-Trump Republicans.

@beckyromero I was hoping for that split to materialize for over 8 years now - in vain. But maybe. Hopefully.
