Personally I think people put far too much importance on civility and playing nice.
Not all political positions are worthy of respect.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Where is the line in the sand?

@Ozymandiaz Generally a good rule of thumb is any politics that will actively harm someone.
For example I am not going to respect someone who wants to discuss the merits of internment camps.

Twitter forced members to make their point in 280 characters, so you had to be pithy and cut the nuance if you were to "win" the debate. Then it became easier to use memes, coz a picture paints a thousand words, etc. Now, here we are in a new world, dictated by the attention span of a goldfish and a message limit of under 300 characters.
@Richard65 That make a lot of sense

I don't think that there was ever a golden age of civility.
That said, so much political discourse online is toxic and reactionary. I try to not be like that

@Burnley123 It has overspilled to everyday life though

Civility is not a virtue. That’s my take on it. I do frequently have civil disagreements with people over politics. Just not over the issues that make the news usually.

@Ozymandiaz in 2007, I thought we were on the cusp of an age of Engagement. Which I hoped would breed empathy. I'm still hopeful. Hate and fear are loud and ugly. What we currently perceive the climate to be may not be the reality. But the current climate of hate and fear is dangerous none the less.
@JonLosAngeles66 It is very divisive. I think that when people start burning things down they never take into the account the cost of building them back up again.
