Interesting how Americans think they have the right to dictate politics on a global level but the instant their politics are criticized suddenly

American politics exist in a magical vacuum and don't impact the rest of the world so nobody is allowed to comment. Interesting.

We'll send millions to Ukraine but we dont have enough to help our citizens down in Florida who are losing homes from the hurricane. And if they do get money they need to apply online where there is no wifi or electricity. America is a joke.
@Vin53 Fair enough. That being said looking after your own society instead of bombing places you can't find on a map has usually been a more left position.

Two things can be simultaneously correct, and the third thing can be tangential.

Fact: US agencies are running out of funds allocated by the GOP Congress to respond to natural disasters, due to the extreme season we're having.

Fact: The Administration is allocating additional funds, as needed to respond.

This is a once in a 100 years series of events, and no amount of preparation can address all scenarios.

Fact: The right wing MAGA circles have been using misinformation and fake news, to try to convince people that the Biden administration is purposely ignoring Red states' disaster needs. This is simply not true, and Marjorie Taylor Greene is parading around with a map trying to prove that Democrats directed the storm to hit red states.

Tangential: while the US is sending weapons to Ukraine, it's not going to help hurricane victims, if they receive shipments of tanks, anti-aircraft missiles, planes, artillery pieces, and ammunition. And that's because Ukraine is not receiving money, it's receiving surplus US and European military equipment. And that's the part that MAGA is using to "fudge" and score points, by claiming that hurricane hit areas should receive the "money" allocated to Ukraine.

Does this help clarify the situation?

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Are you senile? I demonstrated against the Iraq War. You're the one who supported it since you favor starting wars to counter existential threats. If Putin can do it, so can Bush.

The war in Ukraine is Putin using the phony excuse of defending the poor Russian speakers of Donbas. The real reason you support him is because he's an authoritarian. At bottom, people like you are monarchists because you fear and distrust the people and don't think they should be allowed to choose their leaders.

My beef with the Obama administration in 2014 was his failure to stop Putin in Crimea. The excuse at the time was "well, Khruschev gave Crimea to Ukraine as a gift, so Putin's just taking it back, and besides, the people want to be Russian anyway." That failure emboldened Putin and convinced him that his illegal land-grab would work.
@LeopoldBloom Now you just slander me.

It is far more likely you cheered it on since you are a war monger.

And you love your juvenile false comparisons so you can conveniently ignore all the facts.

Quit lying. Even US propaganda is not even bothering with those lies anymore.

Repeat your slander again so you can ignore the facts and because you have no counter argument.

You are pissed because you think Americans are better than everyone and dictate to the world and saw it as weakness.

And the bit about Kruschev is the truth.

This is not about land grabs and you know you are lying.

But America uber Alles, right?
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow You started by slandering me when you accused me of supporting the Iraq War when in fact, I marched in one of the largest anti-war demonstrations in history that took place before a war started. The only reason you claim to have opposed it is because the US instigated it. If Russia had attacked Iraq for the same reason, you'd be here defending them.

I never said Americans are better than everyone. You think they're worse than everyone.

Putin has literally dismissed Ukraine as a legitimate country. He's been trying to destabilize it since 2014. When the invasion started, we heard boasts of how Russian tanks would be in Kyiv in a week while grateful Ukrainians threw flowers. If Trump wins, Putin will succeed, so of course that's who you support.

Again, you're a monarchist. Maybe Trump isn't your ideal monarch, even you should be able to see that the man is a complete idiot, but he's a means to an end and if he's replaced by someone more to your liking, like JD Vance, so much the better.
A red witch, who blocks me, claims
we dont have enough to help our citizens down in Florida who are losing homes from the hurricane.
!!! FALSE !!!

Florida gets BILLIONS OF DOLLARS PER YEAR to help with disasters there! And then there's ALSO the subsidized home insurance!!

Dec 16, 2022 - - Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday approved what Democrats have called a billion-dollar “bailout” for the property insurance industry, even as ordinary homeowners wait for lower premiums for policy holders. ...

The Florida Phoenix previously reported that the insurance legislation creates “a fund in that amount to help carriers purchase reinsurance against their risks in a chancy Florida market — this after creating a similar, $2 billion reinsurance fund as recently as May. The measure furthermore would make it harder for policyholders to retain attorneys to help them force carriers to pay in full.”

I have the luxury of sitting on the sidelines of politics watching the big picture from afar in relative safety.. America weakening itself through supplying ther middle east and risk its oil lifeline. Russia weakening itself beating its head against a brick wall in the Ukraine and Europe and the middle east tense.. And it occurs to me that watching the other guys bleed each other out is China, with no skin in the game, waiting for an opening..😷
You’re not allowed to comment? What happens if you do?
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow When someone throws a tantrum, you ignore it. You don't limit your own statements just because someone will react badly to them.

You remind me of those conservatives who complain "you're not allowed to say XYZ" when what they mean is that people are allowed to object when they say something wrong or offensive, and they don't like that. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say whatever you want and no one else is allowed to have a reaction to it.
@LeopoldBloom You are one of those conservatives.

It's not unique to them, really. They're currently the nation whose politics affect the most every one else so it's visible on them, but I've seen that happening for instance with British, German, Russian, Indian* and France nationals. It's mostly a generational thing also, boomers and older are less receptive of foreign opinions than, e.g., millennials and gen-z. At least in my exp.
American politics at the moment, are dominated by malignant, blood seeking, dark magical thinking.

They're like an army of bloodthirsty orcs following their dark lord not just for booty but for the sheer Joy of raping, pillaging, unrestrained by logic, objective facts, or morality.

Even those where I'm not obsessed with fear and hatred of the other are often obsessed by the havoc. They wreak and threaten to wreak in the future.

Worse yet, British fiction and German history seem to best describe the moment.
but they are one of the biggest super powers....i'm canadian and our politics suck and boring. i just wake up every day doing my best and going to work....i'll come home, kiss my cat and put something on the tv and make my dinner. i'll repeat that a few times a week then i'll go out with friends and have a few drinks...yeah, i'm boring
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow either which way i'm going conservative....it can't get any worse

@beermeplease I shouldn’t laugh because it’s actually awful but coming from someone from the outside doesn’t say much for our attitude here!
