Regardless of the policy you want to put on the table to vote on, the only clear choice to make for the survival of the USA is a vote that DOES NOT put Trump back into a position of power.
It matters not the policy, what does matter is the country.

@swirlie I'm interested in discussing other policies related to economics, queer rights, abortion, the environment, but when one of the parties is hellbent on ending democracy, all of that other stuff does seem kinda unimportant. Like if Harris wins, we can push the Democrats to be better on Palestine. If Trump wins, we won't be able to do anything until we're a free country again. He's already talking about giving cops full immunity to use violence against protesters.

@BohemianBabe Just know, that my guys are now also part of the Democratic coalition and they will use everything in their power to encourage and influence Harris and Congress to protect US and Israeli interests and values in the Middle East. But this is, in fact, really not what this poll is about.

I hear what you're saying and what you say is very poignant. What I question however, is the perception that Americans have even today without Trump, that Americans live in a free country?
It was only on Friday that a Mississippi(?) Court Judge completely acquitted 5 Black traffic cops who stopped a young Black guy during a routine traffic stop and then beat him to death on the sidewalk as the whole thing was videoed by a bystander. There was no aggression by the Black guy, there were no drugs found and the cops did not have probable cause to stop him, other than a minor traffic violation while in town.
Despite the video evidence that totally contradicted every cop's story, the Judge dismissed all Human Rights charges that were brought against those 5 cops in question and now they're back on the job.
Free country? I don't think so! The USA is not a safe country to live in, regardless of which political Party is in power.

So there are a lot of laws and practices in America that are anti-freedom. Cops often get away with crimes, including murder, and there are lots of things that absolutely should be legal. It's insane that drugs and prostitution are illegal.
But that being said, I look at it like this. At one of the State of the Union addresses, Biden said: "The very idea of America that we are all created equal. We've never fully lived up to that idea, but we've never fully walked away from it either."
It's kinda like that with freedom. There's no country on Earth that is truly free, it's all a spectrum. But throughout history, America has consistently moved towards freedom. We went from only allowing land-owners to vote, to now allowing ex-cons to vote. Whereas if the Republicans have their way, we won't be a country consistently moving towards freedom. We'll be a country undoing a century of progress.

@BohemianBabe MAGA republicans want to go backwards not just resist change thats what make america great agian means to them.
BohemianBabe · M
@Spotpot Yeah, they want to undo the steps we've taken towards being more democratic and free. That's why even if you don't yet consider America to be a free country, we should all still vote Democrat in order to keep moving towards freedom.
