From Harold Daggett, Head Of The International Longshoremen's Association

"When my men hit the streets from Maine to Texas, every single port will lock down. You know, it's gonna happen. I'll tell you, first week, (will) be all over the news, every night. Boom boom! Second week, guys who sell cars, can't sell cars because the cars ain't coming in off the ships. They get laid off. Third week, they can't sell clothes. They can't do this. Everything in the US comes on a ship. They go out of business."

"Who's gonna win here in the long run? You're better off sitting down and let's get a contract and let's move on. With this world and could today's world out cripple you. I will cripple you and you have no idea what that means. Nobody does."

NO ONE can stop progress. He should be fighting harder to secure a set number jobs as the industry moves toward automation. He should be working toward a solid agreement to raise wages as they phase out jobs.
As much as we would like to think that we can fight to save jobs from being phased out by technology, we have to come to grips with the reality that foreign competitors are already prepared to replace their workers with automation. What he really needs to be doing is working with representatives to create jobs to replace those lost jobs from automation and move those ILA jobs into the new sector created. If that task is too large for him to handle, then he should seek out help.

In addition to the 70% wage increase over the next six years, this Union boss wants a guarantee that ports will NOT become further automated...when OUR ports are among the most backward and least efficient ports in the entire world. They want a guarantee that their jobs will not be given to machines...even if that means our ports can NOT move our goods fast enough.

These dock workers have the power to cripple an entire nation at the worst possible time in history...when we are not yet fully recovered from the Covid port debacles. When war is breaking out in the middle east, and our factories need raw materials.

The families of POOR people, and the elderly, will suffer the most, because they are ALREADY at the breaking point as regards food insecurity.

Food pantries will run out of food. The poor will go hungry, and CURSE these Unions AND the Port Authorities.

@carpediem I have heard the opposite from Larry Kudlow, who believes it is the Port Authority which is being greedy. I side with YOU, however.

@4meAndyou There are always two sides to the story. But when one side starts out by blackmailing the entire country, I tend to discount their demands.

@carpediem Me, too. I HATE these unions for whatever suffering they cause.

Unions brought us the 40 hour week
Unions brought us in and to child labor.
Some unions indeed became controlled by corrupt elements. But the basic concept, I still sound. Those places “Right to get worked over”states are missing the point. It is the worker that create the value that the owner gets to take. It is entirely fair that workers should make a decent living especially now when so many jobs are just hamburger flipping and food delivery.
But we really need is to bring Real industry back to the front of the American economy

@BizSuitStacy Later when I have time, I will find some links for you to look at to talk about the 40 largest corporations in the world and how much they have made in giant profit. Look into these following real quick, Black rock, State St., Vanguard capital, Berkshire partners, and there are many. So when I’m not other wise hockey party I will take the time to send you the information that you do not think exist. I do like fact checking Anything I’m not sure about
@Dshhh ok...you do realize BlackRock, Vanguard, and Berkshire Hathaway don't actually make anything. They're giant fund managers.

Let's see the YOY income statement from those grocery stores and oil companies.

Main point is no automation replacing members.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@MrBrownstone And a 70% increase in pay and increased benifits
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@sunsporter1649 And that's unheard of.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Sounds a lot like a threat or blackmail.
