Late Term abortions. I hear the conservative right using this as a moral stick with which to beat the left. How DARE they allow late term abortion?!

...Well what do you think a late term abortion is? Think about it for a moment...
Do you think a woman is carrying her pregnancy to 6 or 8 months and saying " Actually no, i don't want this baby, i'll have an abortion" ?

No.
If a woman is carrying a pregnancy that far likely wants that child or at least intends to carry it to term.
Late term abortions occur in cases where either there are unsurvivable defects to the developing child or life threatening complications for the mother.

So my question: Under those circumstances, how can you reasonably and ethically object to the legality of late term abortions?

If you’re advocating for late term abortions based on un survivable conditions at 6-8 months you should know what those conditions are .
If you’re not advocating for that you have no reason to know the conditions .
@AthrillatheHunt

Should i? Why?
I know there are countless conditions and diseases for which we require doctors to make professional judgement. Do i need to know what those are in order to understand the need for medical intervention?
No, because then i'd just be a doctor already lol.

The fact is that there ARE conditions of the pregnancy or development which can result in the pregnancy becoming unviable or the life of the mother being threatened...that's the entire point: Women aren't just deciding to abort a pregnancy close to term on a whim.

@AthrillatheHunt

But i know what i'm advocating for: the legality of late term abortions with medical necessity as adjudicated by medical professionals.

If you are suggesting that no such scenarios exist then you are justified in your criticism.
If you accept that such scenarios exist then there is no substance to your criticism.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Pikachu the same medical professionals who handled Covid ? Hahaha but seriously , what conditions ? You should know at least a few to support your stance .
@AthrillatheHunt

Answer that first.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Pikachu I don’t know if a scenario exists . I thought you did based on your post .
When I ask you what scenario you mean you say you don’t know.
@AthrillatheHunt

lol you can use google as well as i can.
So then we both know that the scenario exists...unless you just haven't made any effort to inform yourself to this point...

@Pikachu outside of the health reasons of the mother and rape. All abortions should be illegal. Idk do you think abortion should be illegal outside rape and health of the mother?
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Pikachu I’m politely asking YOU to inform me , bc I don’t know if a scenario you described exists .
@AthrillatheHunt

lol no, you are politely asking me to do something you could have done for yourself some time ago.
Why?

Aaaaanyway🙄

Many impairments or health risks are not detectable until after the 24th week of gestation. For example, in a 2016 case, a fetus showed no abnormalities at a 20-week scan for a Montreal woman. Yet, at seven months “a new ultrasound showed the fetus was abnormally small and had skeletal malformations, likely caused by a genetic mutation.”

@Pikachu TY for informing me .
@RepublicanDad

Abortion should be legal no matter the circumstances of pregnancy.
@AthrillatheHunt

As if you even read the links lol
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Pikachu do you know how to accept a compliment / thank you , or are you just always full of piss and vinegar ?
@AthrillatheHunt

My dude...you refused point blank to educate yourself, demanding that i do it for you after saying that i sounded ignorant.
Don't clutch your pearls with me.

But i'm willing to let bygones be bygones.
Read up on the information i sent you and get back to me with your now informed opinion.
RepublicanDad · 36-40, M
@Pikachu then I do not agree. I’m strongly against abortion
@RepublicanDad

Well you can be strongly against the right for a woman to have control over what happens to her own body and strongly in favour of the state being allowed to control our bodies against our will...but you remain in agreement that there are conditions under which abortion is justified and that is the scenario which is address in this post.

@RepublicanDad

If you are against abortion, then don't get one.
RepublicanDad · 36-40, M
@WalksWith I care about the life of the child. Don’t want a baby then don’t have unprotected sex
@RepublicanDad

Or protected sex where the contraception fails. Or don't be ignorant about reproduction which is common with abstinence only education.

Essentially just don't ever make a mistake or be ignorant or the state should be allowed to steal your bodily autonomy, right?
RepublicanDad · 36-40, M
@Pikachu the life of the child matters. And if the only reason for an abortion is I don’t want this baby? Then yes that should be illegal
@RepublicanDad

The life of any person is important but that does not mean that they have the right over another person's body.
@AthrillatheHunt Another case where abortion is needed: ectopic pregnancies, which occur in 1-2% of pregnancies. This is when the fertilized egg implants outside the womb.

EP occurs in 1–2% of all pregnancies and can cause significant intraperitoneal bleeding. It is the most common early pregnancy-related cause of maternal morbidity and mortality2,3.Nov 1, 2023

@Pikachu when it involves a child with a beating heart it should.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@AthrillatheHunt I say leave it up to her. She has to live with the decision. It's none of anyone elses business. As for the father, how many guys go into sex thinking that they are johnny appleseed and look for something to sprout?
