Former NYC Rudy Giuliani No Longer Allowed To Practice Law
Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani is no longer allowed to practice law in New York State, an appeals court ruled Tuesday.
Giuliani, a former prosecutor, is known throughout the Big Apple for taking down the mob. Nicknamed America’s Mayor for his response during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he was admitted to the Empire State’s bar in 1969.
He has since been stripped after two criminal indictments against him for allegedly interfering in the 2020 presidential election, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
“Rudolph William Giuliani, is disbarred from the practice of law, effective immediately, and until the further order of this Court, and his name stricken from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in the State of New York,” the First Department appeals court wrote in a decision released Tuesday.
The Manhattan court also wrote that Giuliani “told numerous lies in the numerous forums all designed to create distrust of the elective system of our country in the minds of the citizens and to destroy their confidence in the legitimacy of our government.”
He also “flagrantly misused his prominent position” by making false statements about the 2020 election and, as a result “violated some of the most fundamental tenets of the legal profession,” and “actively contributed to the national strife that has followed the 2020 Presidential election.”
His license to practice law in Washington, D.C. was suspended in 2021.
Ted Goodman, a spokesman for Giuliani, released a statement saying that they will appeal the “objectively flawed decision.”
“Members of the legal community who respect the rule of law in this country should immediately come forward and speak out against this politically and ideologically corrupted decision by the New York Bar Association,” said Goodman.
On X, Giuliani released a personal statement, saying that he was “not surprised” by the ruling.
“Judges, like Merchan and Engoron in NYC are selected by local Democrat bosses. These judges, just like in a one party Communist dictatorship, are not really elected but selected by the Democrat local bosses and often run unopposed,” he wrote.
“The case is based on an activist complaint, replete with false arguments, a hearing officer who was a former judge from the same corrupt Democrat selection process, and a tape with almost 1/4th of the most critical parts erased and covered up by either the Chief NY Bar ‘persecutor’ and his staff, or the Sec’y of State of Georgia.”
